Andrew Hussie is the creative mind behind MSPaint Adventures, the best webcomic going right now.

While I love his art style in general, what impresses me most is how much he has improved over a short period of time. That period being about two years.

He's gone from this....

to this....

to this....

to this.

to go into his next comic, he went from this....

to this....

and then this:

He did this in the span of two years. In a medium where some artists fail to change for almost a decade this stands out to me as being incredible.

Sadly I find the "improved" examples you show there to be almost unwatchable, they genuinely make my eyes hurt.

Yes it's more complex and shows he's grown technically, but is it better as a storytelling medium? I'm not sure.

Your mileage may vary of course, but what I find impressive about the animations is that he essentially combined the comic panel with the cut screen. It's less than a motion comic, but because (to me) the video game/macro/cut screen feel is more natural, I find it to be so much more.

(And I say this as someone who has not finished Problem Sleuth yet, much less started Homestuck.)

It's things like this that make me question the definition of visual art. I think at his most basic Hussie is not a very good artist. The only really impressive things I've seen him draw are some of his backgrounds. However, the way he is able to put things together in his animated segments is damn impressive. But I don't know if that counts as visual art or some type of progamming/animation term that I don't know.

I knoowww, whatever it is, he has it in heaps, and it needs a word! Visual fluency? Kinetic flow? Dynamicism? Good thing?

Good grief. Some of this stuff needs to have a seizure warning slapped on it. >.0;
