*Main Post* 30 Days of Scans Day 24: Least Favorite Costume

Okay, I actually didn't have a lot of time to think about this (just got back from Dragon*Con, forgot all about internet responsibilities, etc.), so I'm sure there's something out there I hate MORE... but I'm going to go with my gut and say Starfire.

There's not a lot I enjoy about the costume (maybe the gauntlets... those are kind of hot). It's barely there, there's a weird crotch jewel, and the color is ALL WRONG for her skin. Purple on orange does nothing for me.

However, honestly, I've seen cosplayers do this costume and pull it off really well. Just want to put that out there.

RUNNER UPS:
Batman ZUR-EN-ARRRRGGGHR (as I like to call it)
Some of the stuff they put Kara in in the late 70's.
Rogue's costume from X-Men Evolution (does that count? Cause I really hate it).

I've bitched about Kory's costume on here before, so yeah, I agree 100%. I think the horrible colour contrast is my biggest gripe, with the weird vajazzling crotch brooch coming a close second.

Her original costume had a lot more gray in it, didn't it? And if memory serves, Perez had the brooch set more like a belt clasp. Both seem to have changed since, and not to her benefit.

Do I have to do a Katana post? (Her current costume is fine, as is the purple outfit she has in Batman:Brave and the Bold. Every other costume she's had is a disaster.)

(I also dislike Nightshade's various costumes, but that's more of a YMMV issue.)

Later on, when she went back to a variant of her traditional costume, she wore this as a bathing suit. It worked better in that context.

The way that skirt is in front of her crotch kind of looks like she's got nothing there at all and just is going very au natural.

Roy icon is very appropriate for this.

Yes, agree on Starfire though my biggest peeves with it besides the large amounts of fanservice it provides is that I can't help but wonder what keeps her breasts from falling out of those straps (Which tends to vary from different artist interpretations). That and the costume seems to be a source of a lot of disrespect poor Kory gets.

And Huntress' bare midriff costume. There are a lot more worst fanservice-designed costumes out there but the current thing Huntress is stuck with angers me on two simple reasons 1) She's a non-superpowered human and 2) She's a non-superpowered human who was shot several times in the stomach and almost died from it. Supergirl with a midriff? Fine, I don't care for it but she's at least invulnerable. Someone like Huntress with one? Not fine.

And of course, Looker's various costumes... Now to me Nightwing's infamous Disco-suit and Jericho's original renaissance-pirate thing were bad, but hilarious. Meaning I could look at them and at least chuckle at their bizarre 80's-ness, but with what Looker wore makes me wince in pain usually.



And she didn't get much better costume wise for awhile... And that goes for the costume her evil-Earth counterpart wore in JL: Crisis on Two Earths.

That costume is actually pretty brilliant. This is after Beast's "secondary mutation" which probably tripled his body size and made the prospect of most clothing impossible.

PLUS, clever way to transform the "X" brand into the cut of the costume.

Knights of Pendragon. Okay, the costumes in themselves aren't all that bad (except Union Jack's which is, especially compared to his regular one), but since they mark the whole change of approach from the mystical end of spectrum to regular superhero stuff they get my vote out of sheer annoyance.

People grouse about Huntress's belly window, but never seem to have a problem with Canary fight with skin and arteries exposed. I hate this costume.

Did you see Project Rooftop's recent Canary redesigns? A lot of them (including the winner, although I do love Jemma's art) had a lot of skin exposed, but they were neat.

Not sure I really have a least favorite costume. I mean, there are 'least favorite ones for characters I like' (Madrox-bodysuit-with-skullcap, Bellybutton-Huntress), but no 'omg what an ugly costume' ones that keep popping up.

My least favorite iconic costume's probably Wonder Woman's. I know it'll never happen for long periods of times, but I'd like some of those attempts to make it more like an actual woman warrior's costume.

But overall? I don't know if there is one...

Oh, wait, what was I thinking? There's always Penance.

This is no good. I liked the easy-fix well enough, and Cully Hamner's was nice even if a bit clunky, but my favorite was still the battle-priest number. I loved it's origins and miss that thing.

I WAS going to just say 'I got nothin'', because I'm generally pretty forgiving when it comes to this sort of thing - but then I remembered. Morrison-era X-Men. ALL of them. There was not a single one of those outfits that looked good.

I actually liked Cyclops outfit, practical, comfortable and making the point that it's not about costumes. Putting him back into the condom-cowl costume fro Astonishing was where it went wrong.... And of course, I'm excluding most of the 1990's "Pouches Galore" costumes..
