Four scans from Invaders Now! #1.
 

The first part of a five-issue miniseries co-written by Christos Gage and Alex Ross opens with the Golden Age Vision (who appeared in the Avengers/Invaders and The Torch minis that Ross previously did with Jim Krueger) gathering the Invaders to face some threat with a tie to their past.  He presents the whole group to Steve in the opening pages, and then we flash back to the group being gathered (having previously been in twos, which the Vision thinks is a sign from fate or whatever).  First, we see the now-returned Toro catching up with Bucky:




The boys easily dispose of a Z-list villain, and then Vision shows up.

Next, the now-returned Human Torch and Namor, who are hanging out doing some work on Utopia.  Jim says that the job Namor asked him to help with could very easily be done with Atlantean tech, and that Namor is just trying to make him feel like he has something to do.




They also meet Golden Age Vision, and then go to England to pick up Jackie and Joey (since Brian obviously isn't available).

Avengers/Invaders had some good bits, but it went on seemingly forever; I didn't bother with The Torch.  But this is pretty good, and it's only five issues, so it shouldn't have a length problem.

First Bucky killed Hitler, and now Jim Hammond did? Obviously every extant Invader has an I-killed-Hitler story.

Jim was Hitler's killer for years now. Bucky on the other hand is either the effects of Bendis or Bucky saying he helped since he was part of the Invaders.

Well you never know, with Arnim Zola running around, there were probably Hitlers to spare back in the day. They both could have killed Hitler, just different ones.

Namor: No I mean he LIKES you.
Jim: Wait, that boy's fancy?

Fehehe, if Lady Blackhawk could have the amusing culture shock with Creote I'd be amused if Jim had it too.

Jim's an android, so sexuality of any sort is probably a little confusing for him.

Actually, in the original Invaders series he was in love with Spitfire. He gave her her powers with his android blood and then was crushed when all she could think about when she woke up was Captain America.

Wait, I thought it was Toro who was in love with Spitefire and gave his blood to her?

No. It was the Torch. His blood was some sort of universal donor blood because her blood type kept changing due to Baron Blood's bite. The fact I remember all this seems absurd to me.

Well, if you have to lose to anyone, Captain America is a pretty tough act to beat... Unless the attraction was passed on to her from Jim via the blood transfusion, which would be a whole 'nother story...

Also, that one woman on the street has a very.....perfectly defined ass. The artist sure took his time drawing it.

Also, this is perhaps the least hottest Bucky has ever looked, imo.

Yeah, it looked like that lady's silk dress got hit with a bucket of water or something. And in general, there's something about the way that this artist draws mouths that's sort of icky.

Also all the noses, don't know if it's the artist or the colourist but why does everyone look as though they are suffering from the flue?

The art looks cartoony and not in a good cartoony sort of way. It reminds me of one of those soulless porn cartoons.

Hmm. Two guys walking down the street commenting on well suited and well haired men and not the short tight skirt wearing women walking around with their butts in full detail.

I am not liking this artist at all, the random useless ass shot, the lines on the face, the puckering expressions. Hate.

Maybe both. There are some shadows in there that look like the colorist didn't realize that there's supposed to be a carapace on his head.

Hitler's Time Travel Exemption Act[TVTropes]; HT and Toro burning him to a crisp is sort of a cheat because Roy Thomas had them do it a) at the exact same time that Hitler committed suicide in our world and b) they had to do it (instead of capturing him) because he was about to press a conveniently flame-proof button that would have blown up Berlin. (And it's a moot point, anyway, because as we all know c) he transferred his consciousness at the point of death to another body, courtesy of Arnim Zola, and became the Hatemonger.)

One of the best things about the original series was the Namor/Torch banter. Good to see it's still there.

I love the two younger heroes (they're some of the newer X-Men, right?) completely geeking out over the Torch. Hell, who wouldn't? He's only one of the oldest and greatest heroes in the MU who, as it has been mentioned, KILLED HITLER.
I like the interplay between the heroes here - Bucky and Toro are a convincing combination of young men and old-before-their-time, while Namor and the Torch are nicely written as people who have known each other for a very long time, if not always as friends. That little bit of snark that Namor shows there is a nice touch; it reminds one that these two used to be arch-enemies with him as the aggressor, and while they may have buried the hatchet, he still can't resist getting in the occasional dig.
