I mean, the Dr. Light rape thing I can understand pissing people off, but again I actually thought it created a decent idea. I never ever read early Teen Titans. My only Titans knowledge is the toon and the atrocious comics these days. The idea that this villain, who could be very very dangerous finally crossed a very dark line and was subsequently defeated and turned into a total joke is a great idea to me. Plus it makes Light even more dangerous because when he regains his memory he's gonna be very very angry.

While I agree that it is a sound idea at it's core but the problem was that:

a) 'Rape' ended up being used as a gimmick for the character.

b) The DCU is never really about the grimmdark stuff. A flight test pilot becomes a superhero because an alien space cop gave him his ring, Batman is around because someone killed his parents, the world's greatest superhero was someone who was rocked from space, the DCU has always been optimistic and it's all about characters who have extraordinary things happening to them and all the complex emotions it inspires. The darkest Batman stories I've read didn't need rape and gore to make it a dark story.
