You want to read some ice-cold abuse of this kind of thing, read about the history of Sri Lanka. British Governors import Tamils to work in plantations, displacing native workers, and touching off massive tension and violence between the two populations now put in economic conflict, while the British observers basically laugh at them for imagining there's any significant difference between the two groups.
And now, a hundred years later, the British are out with all the money, and the Sri Lankan Civil War ended only last year, with the Tamil/Sinhalese conflict just moved underground.

Date: 2010-09-24 04:41 pm (UTC)I have to correct your information though. the Tamils native to Sri Lanka and the later Indian immigrants are two very distinct demographics. The latter is genuinely neglected and even today live in appallingly poor conditions. The conflict arose between the Sri Lankan Tamils and the dominant majority the Sinhalese Buddhists. After the British took over, they employed a system of "divide and conquer". They deliberately favoured Tamils in both education and career prospects and gave them administrative positions over large Sinhalese communities. This provoked enough jealousy, suspicion and dissension that it prevented the Sinhalese and Tamil nationalists from ever properly unifying against the British government. The dissensions grew even more after the Independence in 1948, which coupled with the discriminating language policies of That Turd Prime Minister S. W. R. D Bandaranaike, eventually culminated in the race riots of 1983, which sparked a blood bath that stretched on for 25 years.
Strangely, though very few people think to be mad at the British for any of this, including me. People are, as rule, petty grudge-holding blinkered fools. What purpose would it serve, anyway?

I liked Heart of Hush but this whole Hush as Bruce story seems so contrived just so they (DC) doesn't have to explain Bruce stepping back into his life without legal hassles (obviously since this story is not slated to finish until after Bruce returns the real Mr. Wayne will have to handle HushBruce himself). The idea that Bruce's family and closest allies will assist having this sociopathic mass murderer (including killing both his parents - another insult to Bruce who whose existence is because his parents were murdered) pose as Bruce and give away Bruce's money indefinitely (and his supposed minders do NOT follow him 24/7 as we've seen HushBruce solo in Arkham Reborn and Red Robin) and it WAS indefinite since they all thought Bruce was deader than a doornail is pretty tacky. Zatanna with one spell could return Hush's old face to him and end this farce within seconds (especially taking part in this after she pleaded Bruce's forgiveness several times for the mind-wipe) but no they carry on, even though they know this creap is diabolical, would murder one of them without a second's thought and is determined to ruin Bruce Wayne's name. So what do they do - give him the chance to do exactly that!
