Titans #27

This is from Titans #27 by Eric Wallace and Fabrizio Fiorentino.

The Titans take on the Dominators (no connection to the alien race of the same name) who are using children to make a highly-addictive drug named 'Bliss.'

During the battle, Osiris is infected with the drug.

The vision disappears, with Slade telling Osiris to wake up.

... how about just SAYING her name! That seems to cause the things to happen in your story in this book. Plus I didn't know lightening can do that to a man, burn him up like a atom-bomb...

I hate this, I hate the constant villainy of these characters.
Did Mary Marvel murder anyone during her Black Mary Marvel period?

This just leaves a foul taste in my mouth. Its a cheap imitation of 52 in the sense were they show a person with good intentions go very wrong / evil.

It's like DC comics version of whining.
I'm sick of all the angst and broohahahah that follows The Black Marvel Family around.

I wish they would return Isis as a good character, I wish they could go beyond Amon making poor choices.

I wish they would write the JSA coming along and swooping his badass up and mentoring him like all the other generation JSA oriented fam.

He's the one that really needs cuff behind the head and ear yanked by
Wildcat, Flash, Green Lantern and Terrific.

That would be a good story.

It's consistent with his character, though, whereas Mary's most certainly was not. Amon has hitched himself to the wrong side since he first became Osiris. In this he really IS a junior version of Black Adam.

During that time Osiris befriended the crocodile/horseman whose name I forget. He's just had a history of bad choices/alliances.

To my memory, Sobek was a sympathetic figure when he first appeared; someone who'd been presented by the writers as having been created and abused by Sivana, not a freaking apocalyptic demigod-thing. How the hell was Osiris supposed to know that he'd later go "LOLIEATCHU 'CUZ I'M FUCKING FAMINE"?

I was hoping someone at DC could actually write a good story with someone like Amon ( confused ) overcoming the odds.
Guess not.

They have YET to do moral ambiguity as anything other than a "slow slide towards evil".

Of if they have, it's been so overshadowed in recent years that it might as well not exist.

The Ostrander/Yale run of Suicide Squad was good with moral ambiguity. You know, until it got cancelled.

Agreed, on all counts. Black Adam is like Superwhine Prime...the stereotypical fat kid on the playground getting kicked.

Mary didn't kill anyone in Countdown (which editor Mike Carlin was quick to point out when one of the web sites asked him at the end of Countdown about the "Black Mary" criticism from readers) but the DeSaad-possesed Black Mary in Morrison's Final Crisis DID cut in half one of the female Atomic Knights (this is when she was fighting WW). Carlin (who BTW was also the editor of Ordway's Power of Shazam series so knew how Mary was supposed to be written aka NOT as an an violent idiot) said the "but she didn't kill anyone" line knowing what was going to happen in FC (which I think is kinda tasteless).

I've felt from the beginning that Osiris is going to be one of the characters who will fail at this "second chance" at life (it's not for nothing that Wallace who's writing Titans keeps referring to Amon as a "tragic" character) which is a shame because he only wanted to be a hero, the only life he took was a super-villain sent by Waller to set him and BA up (and why hasn't Atom Smasher was part of Waller's mission done his best to clear Osiris now that he's back?) and he got a good going out as a hero (taking out BL Sobek) in the PoS January one-shot - but it's more than likely he'll take several more lives (and it's still not properly explained why someone with literally god-like power is taking orders from Deathstroke).

I don't think Didio (who more than one person has said has been behind the recent Marvel Family decisions - including Black Mary, Billy bounced as the lead and Freddy taking over as Shazam/Captain Marvel/Whatever - hates the Marvel Franchise persay, but he sure as heck doesn't understand these characters and as a result as been ruining them for years now.

(and it's still not properly explained why someone with literally god-like power is taking orders from Deathstroke).

DeathStroke;s super power: Manipulating extremely powerful teens. eventually we will get Amon lounging on a couch smoking a cigarrette saying "I bet Terra never did that."

*evil i know

that said... i still have hope for Amon. mainly because i love him, and I want Isis back....

I'm honestly running out of ways to say how much I hate DC's habit of making evil anyone with any relationship to a villain. What the hell is with that?

Why not just ignore the book and be better for it?

Because people actually like Osiris when he first appeared and they want to see if he character to be develop since he was brought back from the death.

It's so painful it's almost funny, almost.

I still remember my optimism about the group when I first heard it announced. "Hey guys, Osiris is gonna be a member of the group! That means the team will be secretly good guys because Osiris would never be on a team that kills! This is gonna be awesome :D"

betcha she isn't breaking free but instead just cracking, and that she'll shatter at the end after Amon has killed so many that he is established as another grimdark villain, and he'll have a narmy moment. :-|

[personal profile] sethgray 2010-09-23 19:36 (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is exactly what I think too. Osiris is all "She's breaking free!" and I'm all, "No, bitch. She's just breaking."

Yeah, I'm wondering if that's where this is heading cause it's damn ambiguous thus far. And man was the White Lantern vision to Amon pretty damn vague.

WL: Free the Earth Goddess, free Isis!
Amon: Okay...how?
WL: Well...umm...*vanish*

it isn't saying how. Maybe there's not a set way.

Like in Generation Lost. Max is supposed to stop the war Magog will start. The vision he had recently showed Magog's Justice Brigade included Captain Atom and was key to the Kingdom Come future coming. Now he's sending Magog against a team with Captain Atom on it.
