[personal profile] stubbleupdate posting in [community profile] scans_daily
I already posted The Immortal Iron Fist's origin a few weeks ago. Now, from the same book Origins of Marvel Comics, comes origins for Ms. Marvel

It's kind if disappointing to know that Sana Takeda is now the Ms. Marvel artist. God, I miss having a Ms. Marvel series that was a) published, b) had good art and c) wasn't written by a writer who was bored of the character,
Ares

We'll ignore the fact that Tony Stark offered to give Ares pots of money to be a Mighty Avenger and
The Sentry

That's a relatively straightforward retelling of the Sentry origin story. Top stuff.
Golden Guardian of Good, RIP in Peace.

Wait, Ares was a single dad? And wasn't abusive? How did that work out?

Was there any controversy over Reynolds' mind-wipe? Wouldn't it be easier for him to control the Void if he knows that he is the Void...?

(DC-follower, obviously.)

Ares was a hard father, but he looke dout for his kid 100% of the time. He kept him from olympus, kept his own powers to a miniumum, and only after some japanese jerk of a god kidnapped his son did Ares say Fuck it and went back to doing what he do.

Even after his son joined up with the secret warriors Aes didn't bust them, he just told fury to watch the little boyo.

It's sad cuz ares be dead now. :(

Hm, not sure how that would work out with such a brutal god...is the kid a demi-god? Is there a mother, or is the child made out of clay, like the first Greek myth origin of humanity?

And isn't Ares coming back? Gods don't die...or at least, don't stay dead.

Read Mike Oeming's Ares miniseries, it should be available in TPB, and it was super, super good.

Areswas a great dad. Sure his morals weren't exactly up to 21st century standards. But he spent time with his son, taught him right from wrong. (even if that right was along the lines of don't start the fight but if the fight starts don't stop until they can't fight anymore).

The Ares parent teacher conference was a hoot. As Ares and Alexander's favorite father/son activity seemed to be watching war documentaries on the history and military channels he tended to draw some... disturbing pictures in art class.

Yeah, Ares may be pretty crazy, but he tries to be a better father than his dad was. Which is not too hard.

Ares kid Alexander was raised as a mortal, but after getting godpowers Phobos, is part of Nick Fury's team of Secret Warriors. Doing not bad all things considered.

And the point was that if Robert Reynolds is aware that he's the Sentry then the Void is aware that it exists too. Removing both identities awareness of who they were was the sensible move to make.

Isn't that bio for Sentry total bullshit though? I remember in an issue of Dark Avengers his wife stating that the real story was that he was a junkie who broke into the lab, downed some chemicals and turned into Sentry.

First to me would be the "more innocent time" line since it implies Bob was a member of that more innocent time. Also, I'm pretty damn sure he wasn't in college when he was a junkie.

The ideal line was contradicted because his wife stated he was basically a junkie, except not with drugs but with his new powers and the serum as well. She also said he killed a man she had been cheating on him with if I recall correctly.

Also, did the Void ever manifest itself as a separate entity as this seems to imply? I recall the Void just being Sentry when he got crazy.

They must have changed that in Dark Reign since it was just Bob's dark side that took hold of him.

Bendis wrote the Void as existing within Rob, I think. At least it was in New Avengers Annual, and in Dark Avengers.

Yes. The Void has always been a separate entity from the very beginning.

Nope.

You consider Mighty Avengers the last good Avengers team?

Color me dubious.

I consider this team the 'Sellout' Avengers.

In Ares case, LITERALLY.

Really I just think you're selling the Mighty Pymvengers and the Secret Avengers short.

I personally found the dark avengers interesting in the 1st volume (hopped off when they went to piss off cyclops and became sentry and normy's show with extras)

And pymvengers were the real avengers to me for a while.

Until issue 34 and the "Obligations to Other Plots" breakup of WTF, I totally agree.

I like this Ms. Marvel artist. At least she doesn't look like she's carrying two bowling balls under her shirt.
