I don't read the solicitations any more, too depressing, but I suspect that Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! is coming to an end. Twists are coming thick and fast--Tawky Tawny is permanently an anthropomorphic tiger, Freddy Freeman has dropped the Black Adam Junior identity for Captain Marvel Junior, Black Adam and the wizard Shazam are both back from limbo, and all of the Marvel Family's enemies have teamed up for a battle royale, as seen on the cover here....





At the Rock of Eternity, Black Adam confronts the good Marvels (Mary still in her normal identity,) but Cap is having a bit of a confidence problem, and hesitates.




Black Adam takes advantage of the distraction to head off to Fawcett City and rendezvous with the other villains. Mary, Junior and Tawny take off, but Shazam holds Cap back for a quick pep talk and a mysterious trump card just in case.

By the time Billy arrives in Fawcett City, the others are on the ropes from the multiple villains. Although Captain Marvel does well at first, he's soon pushed down by King Kull.

But what might look like an overwhelming army of evil...




...Is actually a target-rich environment.

The Marvel Family polishes off all the lesser villains, but now it's time for Black Adam, who's finally gotten back his full power!

Especially since Norton came aboard on the pencils this has probably been the best Marvel Family book since even prior to Ordway's Power of Shazam. This is how they SHOULD be written.

The sad part is when you think what DC has done to the Marvel Family's counterparts (especially Billy and Mary) in the regular DCU.

Why don't we have some more "cannon" Captain Marvel stuff? I know whenever DC does something with them they... make them either emo or killers, and Black Adam has be hogging the light alot...

Hmm, not too bad but I thought it was cute how Mary just turned into a powered her than an adult as opposed to Billy but was faster and stuff than him.

Well it makes since that Mary turns older now. I remember in the last ish or so of 52 where they see the new Mulitverse and Earth-5 has CM's 1,2 & 3 fighting this giant robot. So it would make sense to change the look to match what was previously seen.

I wasn't a big fan of the idea of Miny!Mary Marvel, anyway. Not since Jeff Smith left the title.

It appears so--all the recent changes seem to be aimed at making this version more like "classic" Captain Marvel.

Dan Didio apparently is not a fan of the Marvels "sensibility", doesn't believe they fit in with the current (dark bloody) DCU. He's even said as much. That's why they're either never seen or when they are we get stuff like Evil Mary, genocidal Black Adam, Billy being replaced by Freddy, the Wizard being killed off. etc.

I dropped this book after the creative team changed. Now I think I may have to start picking them up again...


...um, for my niece. Who is totally not one and loves the all age comics I buy. For her to read. Which she can totally do, since she isn't a baby.

I guess the chance of cancellation is big because the writers and artist are going to do Young Justice next. Sad, cause I always liked the idea of Captain Marvel. (For what it's worth, the people of the YJ tv show and comic both seem way more fond of Cap than Didio)
