Entry tags:char: human torch/johnny storm, char: mr. fantastic/reed richards, creator: cliff rathburn, creator: francesco mattina, creator: robert kirkman, title: fantastic four
Before he switched to only creator owned, Robert Kirkman laid one of the building blocks for Civil War by creating 42 in Fantastic Four FoesI've wanted to post something from this for a while, but I've not known which bit to post. So, instead of any story arc defining bit, or a fighty scene, or one of Kirkman's traditional actually-quite-good final page cliffhangers, here's Johnny Storm's guide to women

Kirkman does write really good comedy, especially with Reed's head just getting out of a nasty situation.
Of course, now I want to see Johnny Storm's Bro Code

And, because I've jad it on my desktop for ages, the cover for Fantastic Four Cosmic Special. The cover is by Francesco Mattina, who did really good covers for Digglebolts and also covered DC's Azrael series.

Wow, that cover is gorgeous. It's the best representation I've ever seen of how strange it is to have such human eyes looking out of the Thing's face. (For some reason I find the teeth very creepy, though.)

The other day I was wondering how he has teeth.

He doesn't, always. I'm pretty sure Kirby usually portrayed him as toothless - he doesn't NEED teeth; he's got lips a few inches thick that are harder than rock. However, a lot of artists these days tend to draw him with teeth, so... yeah.

It is a pretty picture. I like it. The textures and light are, well, brilliant. I'd love to see Reed and Johnny done as well as Ben is here.

That is Scarlett Johansson - but I'm sure that discussion has been and gone already.

I'll stick with "ooh pretty".

Yeah, he definitely used the movie for Sue and Ben ref, but managed an amazing achievement because I don't care. That's very good stuff.

I actually read fantastic four foes on Marvel digital. its a great read. It also really sets up Mad thinker as Marvel's resident Xanatos Gambit master. Since his whole plan hinges on him A) trying to form an alliance with all the FF's other foes and failing miserably, and B) getting caught by the FF and getting thrown in the Negative Zone Prison.

Also, shows one of the major flaws of the Negative Zone prison; when they first go there to scout locations, they run into Annihilus. I guess Tony and the Pro Regggers were just "lucky" that Annihilus was busy tearing the rest of the universe a new one during Civil War, or he would have opened that chestnut himself.

I heard that the whole "Annihilation" super-badass evil stuff happened because Annihilus thought Earth was infringing on his turf with the Negative Zone Prison.

Another great Foes moment: Super Skrull (I think it was super skrull) impersonates Franklin Richards to steal something from the Baxter Building, and when Sue finds out she proceeds to stomp a mudhole in his ass, thinking he's done something to Franklin.

Turns out he didn't; Franklin is still at school waiting to be picked up. They get a call about it mid ass whupping.

Sue Richards: Ultimate Mama Bear.

Sadly, I cannot, I read it on digital comics and would not know where to start. Even if I had a dead tree version, I have no scanner.

Dude, srsly: do not profane Sue by associating her with the Horror from Wasilla. Intentionally or not. I beg of you.

Alright two things:

1) The term Mama Bear existed way before failin Palin came up with the idea. Check TVtropes.

2) Her thing is actually called "mama grizzlies"

You know what's weird? I actually prefer shallow Johnny Storm.

I grew up reading him in the 90's when he had the whole Skrull ex-wife drama and was soul-searching all the time. I'm usually virulently against making a character shallower but for some reason, it's just charming and feels oddly right with Johnny Storm. Maybe it's just because he always makes me laugh?

I have to agree. Fame-whoring fake pop musician/reality TV star Johnny was the one part of the Millar/Hitch run that actually felt right to me.

Yeah, its like in the first arc of 4, where the FF have lost all their money and Johnny has decided to grow up and become a fire man when he's not fighting evil. Then the FF get all their money back and he goes back to his normal goofy stuff.

Johnny is like the Bizarro Spidey; he's a goofy kid that everything always seems to go right for.

For cryin' out loud, Johnny, just say you were saving the world. If you were HELPING to save the world, that counts.
