silverzeo: Chaud thinking "No way!" (WTF?)
[personal profile] silverzeo posting in [community profile] scans_daily
Just saw the preview for the newest issue of JSA, and... well... I think their needs to be some explanation....

The story takes place on the moon, where Scott built that city (didn't he help build the a watchtower on the moon? Remember that? Where the JLA's base on the moon? Seems like decades since then.) and... SOMEHOW it become populated by magically creatures...

Okay, I haven't read the last issue, where the JSA had to fight some ancient Mayan Gods of whatever. But I am bit confuse. WHY are these magically beings are drawn to Scott's city on the moon? I thought they had their own plane of existence on earth, or from what I learned from the New Krypton arcs.... in fact this seems JUST like it, only with less promotion. I am all for the combination of Fantasy and Science, but I can enjoy it when somebody explains it? Governing a magic city on the moon is a job for GA Green Lantern? Speaking of magic, what's happening with the Marvel Family, we had a cannon story since the Wizard took Billy and Mary's powers away and is out for Freddy, what about that? Shouldn't there be a focus on THAT story concept?

I feel like Obsidian in this picture.

Well the the Starheart (i believe) is magical in origin. i believe it was even stated to be the essence, or part of the essence of magick itself... so Alan as master of the Starheart kinda became a beacon for magic.

dont think this is a Jump the shark moment though, not in my opinion.

well, the previous jla/jsa arch showed the various magical/elemental beings on earth going kerflunky, because of the unbalanced starheart. so seeing as it has this effect on even the minuetly powered magicals and elementals of earth. A balanced Starheart might draw them rather than the aformentioned kerflunky-ness

It's possible the "new age of magic" had an impact there, or else they have a choice between living in an extradimensional ghetto or returning to their home-dimension, where they can bask in the physical proximity of the Starheart.

Like they said, they're drawn to it.

Plus, if you had a chance to live on the moon, wouldn't you?

Yeah, the Starheart was composted of all the old wild magic which the Guardians wanted excised from the universe, so magical beings being attracted to it makes sense to me.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. The Starheart is wherever Alan is; cuurently, and for many decades now, Earth. Naturally Earth's magical beings would be the ones drawn to it first and most strongly.

Magical beings from planet Zz'grk-12 either can't be arsed moving to the satellite of the otherwise backwater world like Earth, or are portalling over.

I think he's asking why are only Earth based magical things attracted to it if it's made from all the universe's old wild magic.

Because they are the ones closest to it. Why do kids run to the nearest ice-cream truck rather than the one sitting three towns over?

You're applying very humanocentric assumptions here, which don't necessarily mean anything to the fay.

To a magical being the difference between a troll and a rabbit/dog man is perhaps a whole lot less than between a either of those and a non-magical being. Even morseso when you're a VERY small minority group finding a refuge. These beings aren't so much divided by physical appearance as united by an underlying magical nature which they can share with each other.

And just because pixies and elves enjoy the overblown language you can't extrapolate that that would apply to EVERY type of being there. As noted, some of the Japanese beings like haiku, others probably don't care one way or the other, or do it for fun (Nigh-immortal lifespans could get very boring without some affectations to mess with)
