Because Good Comics Must Not Be Forgotten
Oct. 1st, 2010 08:49 pmWaaaaaaaaaay back, jelly-Ace made this post from Batman Adventures vol.2 #14.
I'm just re-posting the Bruce/Martha Wayne scans from the original post.
And get your head out of the gutter, like right now!
If you are feeling a little deja vu, it's because I accidentally hit enter before I finished posting. Whoops!
The story is titled While Justice Needs Me
Which is perhaps the best summation of Batman I've ever read.

Oh, Bruce. <3

Ah, the makings of a crazy-prepared future bad-ass.
And....that's perhaps the most character Martha Wayne has gotten over the years.
Of course I'm kind of selling the Bat-writers a bit short here since the 'Martha Wayne' Wiki page implies that she has had a lot more history than most people give her credit for. The only problem is that no writer has tried to pick up the ball and run with it like they did with Thomas Wayne.
So I do have something of a request; I would like to see scans of the Batman mini series Batman: Family OR just any story that features Martha doing something besides getting shot (and it *must* have more than 2 panels). I believe lucean posted it back in the old comm and IIRC it had an interesting plot and expanded on Martha Wayne's history.
Personally, I think Martha Wayne is a character that needs more love within the fans and the creators.
Also, excuse me, I need to use the Cone of Silence for a second here:
OMG, I'm so happy! The Thomas and Martha Wayne pages were the first pages I filled back when I used to work at Comicvine and it's till the same way it was when it was waaaaay back in 2007. OMG, my English was horrendous back then or maybe it's the writing, anyway they are both still horrendous. Someone changed the layout (I think ) and added new pictures (yay!I still remember scouring the internet for a descent pic of Martha back, God how difficult the task proved to be) but I'm still the top editor on that page! Woohoo!
............
Anyway.....the Cone didn't work now did it?
:quickly disappears into the shadow:

Date: 2010-10-01 06:09 pm (UTC)Was that the story that dealt with Martha Wayne fighting human trafficking and child abuse? IIRC was this the one that got banned because there was some sort protest (not really sure) against Taiwan due to the human trafficking and prostitution? I'm sure I've read of something to that effect a long time ago while I was researching on Martha Wayne.

Date: 2010-10-01 06:22 pm (UTC)Andrew Vacchs as a writer frequently writes about the world of child prostitution, and in particular the genuinely grotesque (and I use that term only because I would be banned for using the term I'd prefer to use) "paedophile tours" that run to Thailand.
Don't! Buy! Thai! was a boycott campaign that Vacchs organised to try and raise awareness of the obscenity of the concept. It makes for odd reading.

Date: 2010-10-01 05:16 pm (UTC)There are actually several Martha Kane flashbacks, which make her look like a really cool woman. They are actually pretty consistent with the do-gooder Martha that Dini has been writing in the recent Hush storyline of Streets of Gotham.

Date: 2010-10-01 06:04 pm (UTC)Marthat Wayne is only the second biggest example and 'Bruce Wayne is the first one. Consider the potential for stories involving him and WE, I think Batman: Family was the first one to touch upon that.

Date: 2010-10-01 06:14 pm (UTC)She also appears in "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" sort of as Batman's spirit guide. His father does not appear, so that's something.
Also, I've seen scenes of what appeared to her spirit talking to Bruce from Batman: Death and the Maidens. The scenes I saw showed her alone, without Thomas. I have not read it, though, so I can't confirm whether it is her or some elaborate trick or something else.

Date: 2010-10-01 06:20 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm well aware of her appearance in WHTOCC since it was somewhat recent.
I happened about a blog that posted the scenes with Martha, not sure I can find it now though. :( Sorry. :(

Date: 2010-10-01 07:02 pm (UTC)DCAU comics need to be brought back asap! One thing I enjoyed about their Bruce was his sheer humanity. Sure he was the dark avenger of the night, striking fear into the hearts of wrong doers, but he was also capable of cracking jokes, being a loving father figure and a Grey Ghost fanboy at heart.
Young Bruce reminds me so much of Dick it`s uncanny!

Date: 2010-10-01 08:05 pm (UTC)Martha, Kathy, Bette, Kate... Hopefully, Martha and Kathy were very distant cousins, considering... David Cain was probably actually born David Kane, but changed the spelling of his last name because he thought it looked more badass.
