Waaaaaaaaaay back, jelly-Ace made this post from Batman Adventures vol.2 #14.

I'm just re-posting the Bruce/Martha Wayne scans from the original post.

And get your head out of the gutter, like right now!

If you are feeling a little deja vu, it's because I accidentally hit enter before I finished posting. Whoops!

The story is titled While Justice Needs Me

Which is perhaps the best summation of Batman I've ever read.

Oh, Bruce. <3

Ah, the makings of a crazy-prepared future bad-ass.

And....that's perhaps the most character Martha Wayne has gotten over the years.

Of course I'm kind of selling the Bat-writers a bit short here since the 'Martha Wayne' Wiki page implies that she has had a lot more history than most people give her credit for. The only problem is that no writer has tried to pick up the ball and run with it like they did with Thomas Wayne.

So I do have something of a request; I would like to see scans of the Batman mini series Batman: Family OR just any story that features Martha doing something besides getting shot (and it *must* have more than 2 panels). I believe lucean posted it back in the old comm and IIRC it had an interesting plot and expanded on Martha Wayne's history.

Personally, I think Martha Wayne is a character that needs more love within the fans and the creators.

Also, excuse me, I need to use the Cone of Silence for a second here:

OMG, I'm so happy! The Thomas and Martha Wayne pages were the first pages I filled back when I used to work at Comicvine and it's till the same way it was when it was waaaaay back in 2007. OMG, my English was horrendous back then or maybe it's the writing, anyway they are both still horrendous. Someone changed the layout (I think ) and added new pictures (yay!I still remember scouring the internet for a descent pic of Martha back, God how difficult the task proved to be) but I'm still the top editor on that page! Woohoo!

............

Anyway.....the Cone didn't work now did it?

:quickly disappears into the shadow:

Nice to see what still makes Bruce smile like a kid.

Streets of Gotham is kinda developing Martha pre-Wayne - I think it's implying that she was the one that got Thomas into charity work.

The "Batman Family" mini of a few years ago also concentrated on the past of Martha Wayne, nee Kane. as did Andrew Vacchs, "Batman: The Ultimate Evil" story.

Yes and no. Yes, there was a campaign, but as far as I know, there was no ban.

Andrew Vacchs as a writer frequently writes about the world of child prostitution, and in particular the genuinely grotesque (and I use that term only because I would be banned for using the term I'd prefer to use) "paedophile tours" that run to Thailand.

Don't! Buy! Thai! was a boycott campaign that Vacchs organised to try and raise awareness of the obscenity of the concept. It makes for odd reading.

You'll have better luck if you search for Andrew Vachss.

(And no worries, icon_uk-- I remember thinking "that spelling doesn't look quite right" and then getting it wrong myself because I thought it was Andrew Vachs)

I don't remember where I put my issues of Batman: Family but I do remember thinking it remains one of the most under-rated Batman stories of the last 20 years (and is a direct follow-up to Murderer/Fugitive in the sense that the troubles Bruce is having controlling WE are because of his recent jail time, and Lucius' heart attack, others were trying to gain control of the company). It also introduced "The Network" a whole bunch of new Bat-Villains that really haven't been used since.

There are actually several Martha Kane flashbacks, which make her look like a really cool woman. They are actually pretty consistent with the do-gooder Martha that Dini has been writing in the recent Hush storyline of Streets of Gotham.

Nice to see the mother interact with Bruce for once.

Apparently she gets some scenes in Batman: Streets of Gotham #16 (according to this very spoilery description of the issue) that show her before she married Thomas and develop her backstory a bit. If you're interested in her, it sounds like a good issue.

She also appears in "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" sort of as Batman's spirit guide. His father does not appear, so that's something.

Also, I've seen scenes of what appeared to her spirit talking to Bruce from Batman: Death and the Maidens. The scenes I saw showed her alone, without Thomas. I have not read it, though, so I can't confirm whether it is her or some elaborate trick or something else.

Thank you so much for this post! :D
DCAU comics need to be brought back asap! One thing I enjoyed about their Bruce was his sheer humanity. Sure he was the dark avenger of the night, striking fear into the hearts of wrong doers, but he was also capable of cracking jokes, being a loving father figure and a Grey Ghost fanboy at heart.

Young Bruce reminds me so much of Dick it`s uncanny!

How many Kanes are in the Batman Family, anyway? Yeah, I know all those characters were given that name as a tribute to Bob, but...

Martha, Kathy, Bette, Kate... Hopefully, Martha and Kathy were very distant cousins, considering... David Cain was probably actually born David Kane, but changed the spelling of his last name because he thought it looked more badass.

While I haven't actually seen enough of the actual DCAU - that is to say, the animated part - to evaluate just what kind of a character the Gray Ghost actually is, I can't be the only one who kinda wishes DC would come out with a show about him, or integrate him into the DCU somehow. He seems to have a great, Shadow-meets-Adam-West sort of feel about him.

I love these panels. It sheds light on how awesome a mother Martha was, it's so full of irony, it's kinda sad, and yet at the same time one can't help but be amused at how crazy prepared--and dramatic--Bruce was even as a kid.
