On Letter Columns, Robin, and Batman

So, folks over at noscans_daily were discussing the old letter columns, and I mentioned an old letter containing a eulogy for Jason Todd. Putting it up to share with those interested.

Wow, I'd forgotten all about the eulogy bit, and from a Pastor no less.

I think I recall Lon Wolf from a few columns, though the ones that stick in my mind are the likes the Wu sisters and The Mad Maple.

I'm amused that there's a letter from a Steve Young while another letter discusses a poll involving whether Joe Montana should retire.

(I assume this was between the 1987 and 1988 seasons; after 1987 there was a belief that Steve Young should become the starting QB. Of course Montana remained the starter and the 49ers won the next two Super Bowls.)

Also good eulogy.

The purple prose is a little nauseating, and honestly the sentiment doesn't quite make sense in the context of the two dimensional replacement of a replacement that Jason actually was at the time. Kind of the reason why he was killed off, in fact.

If it's slightly nauseating and doesn't really make sense in light of the deceased's life then I'd say it's a lot like a typical priest's eulogy irl.

Doesn't make sense in what way? A lot of people found post-crisis Jason plenty dimensional. Is it just the fact that Father Canedo liked him enough to write any kind of eulogy at all that doesn't make sense to you?

Perhaps Jason went back in time, took over Wilson Aguilar's body and wrote this last paragraph.

Wow, they were already noticing Batman's natural reaction to things in the EIGHTIES. Also, this guy is awesome and awful at the same time.

Aw, the eulogy. A little overblown, but sweet. I wonder what Pastor Guy would think of Jay's Character Derailment?
