Didn't we just see Logan and Frankencastle deal with this back in their fight against Bloodstone-enhanced Daken?

At least the art is decent.

eh, it just might be an in Joke, you know Marvel is expanding into the Anime/Manga field with Anime Iron Man, and stuff. also the character is an Artist from japan... (might be seen as slightly racist, but i think its an homage to Anime/Manga....)

Seems to be more of an in-joke than a rip off to me, but I'm more inclined to give Kieron Gillen the benefit of the doubt based upon the fact that he is 100% bloody awesome and has only ever written stuff I adore.

That tends to slant my view somewhat.

That said, I'm on the fence about this and his upcoming Uncanny run with Matt Fraction. Mostly because anything X-related touched by the hand of Fraction has had me wincing and backing away. I want to like this, but I suspect I'll be skipping it based on the preview. I'm sure Kieron will be doing great work, but I'm so disinterested in the greater X-universe at the moment and the premise, that the book's skippable.

There's been a bit of speculation that the co-writing stint on UXM could be in preparation for a hand-off between the two writers. That's how it went when Fraction took over from Brubaker, isn't it?
if we could do that and get rid of Land while we're at it, i might just start pulling UXM

Generation Hope, I'm thinking I might have to try, though.
Biased toward Gillen, don't care. It's gotten me nothing but smiles so far!

I'm inclined to give Fraction some leeway, just because I can't believe any sane writer would willingly saddle himself with the cast of hundreds that the Nation-X/Utopia/Second Coming mess that he's been bolted to for most of his run. My natural inclination is to believe the mess we're seeing in Uncanny is largely the unavoidable result of editorial placing emphasis on plot over story and character and the writer getting to be the messenger up in front of the firing squad.

Then I remember "This is Karma; she likes girls", damn near everything that's been done with Northstar, and the unrelenting, undeserved tongue-bath that everyone keeps giving Cyclops, and think better of it.

And it seems that giving Kieron the benefit of the doubt plays off, seeing that at the very least he is well aware of the reference that he is making.

Whena person sees a writer lay out his thoughts like this, it certainly dispells many of the fears I have.

Who are the previous four lights and what are their abilities? I can tell one has ice and fire powers, but that's it.

Can't remember the names but: Blue Poccy Girl can fly, Visually Bland at Rest Boy has super-speed that ages him, Mutant Silas* Kid is sabretoothy feral and pees on things and Tormented by the Need to Reconcile her Powers and her Religion just like Rahne Chick controls fire and ice and angsts with more class than usual.

*I miss Highlander sometimes. Don't judge me.

How did Wolverine cut that tentacle in half? It's, like, five times as thick as his claws are long.

Also, all three of his claws are out, so why aren't there two thin slices of tentacle left over?

Marvel has a long history of taking popular trends and turning them into new characters. Only time will tell if this guy is a Luke Cage/Dazzler or a NFL Super Pro.

Bru's X-Men was okay.
Fraction's X-Men is shit.
This is related to Fraction's X-Men, which I have no interest in. I was hoping the Five Lights would revitalize the franchise but it is just as bad.
I don't think Gillen can even save this. X-Men has a tendency to make otherwise good writers very shitty.

Did no one at Marvel seriously look at the "Generation Hope" logo and notice that it doesn't take much imagination to read it as "Generation Hype"?

I think Generation Hope was timed horribly. I give it 5 issues before it gets canned, unless Marvel is so determined to push it (like with the Cable series), they just keep churning it out. But I don't see any real interest in it. I really don't see how anyone is supposed to be excited about five new characters, when far more interesting characters have been shoved into the background for years in favor of Emperor Cyclops and his arm baggage girlfriend.

i actually like the way they have developed Cyclops and Emma, and i know i am not the only one...

that said, i do agree on the whole background character thing.

i personally could go for more Pixie, Northstar, Anole, also what happend to Hepzibah? and could we have teh X-Jammers back home? also Finally bring Jean back!

How exactly are Wolvie's claws cutting through a tentacle bigger than his torso? And how come Slim always ends up at close range? His powers are more or less designed for sniping.

well his powers are also REALLY devastating at close range, plus he's an exceptional hand to hand combatant. He doesn't rely on his powers. so he is kinda like a Queen in chess. he can pretty much play any part of the field (i know Queen can't move as a Knight, but he can do that too :)
