I, for one, am shocked...SHOCKED...that Thanos would ever think of doing this.

Thanos just doesn't do subservience. Even in his relationship with Death he sought equality. So this just makes me see a gigantic, bigger than life, yellow and red "STOP" sign. With "There's no lube behind this point, just so you know Mr. Mar-Vell. Proceed at your own risk." on small print.

He's played lackey to Death when she resurrected him as he hunted the Infinity Gems.

Honestly? I see this as what Death expected Thanos to do. An outsider dying while inside the cancerverse might reinstate death as a power, let alone one recreated to be unkillable.

ok im a little confused.... what is the point of this series... and why is Mar-vell a death god?

Mar-Vell is not a death god, he is a lord of Undying.

In short, the Marvel 616 universe is being invaded by a parallel universe where organic life cannot die and continues growing like a cancer, hence the name Cancerverse. That Cancerverse was perverted by the Cthnonic entities that exist between the universes. Their high priest/living connection to the cancerverse is the Captain Marvel of that universe. Instead of succumbing to cancer like he did 616 thisMar-Vell instead took an alternative cure (how we don't know until issue #6) that caused the Avatar of Death in that universe to die. With nothing dying and everything rotting, they are expanding to other universes. Hence the need for Thanos, to bring back "death" to their universe and neutralize the invasion/infection.

I gathered he got the heroes to hunt down the Avatar of Death and off it.

Isn't there a way to contact the Death of Marvel 616 and get her to, I don't know, 'clone' herself a copy of Death into that parallel universe.

Also why is anything rotting? Rotting would imply that parts of something is dying, but if there can be no cell-death...

Don't know why Death herself hasn't had a hand in this, outside of possible fear of the Galactus Engine and/or the Cthonic Elder Gods who now control the Cancerverse.

And just like Galactus can't clone himself, Death can't, especially in a universe that some principle rule of existence has been neutralized so there is no death.

It's rotting like a cancerous growth is rotting. Not putrificiation but life-gone-out-of-control, under the perverting influence of the many-angled ones.
