Part 2 of the Idiot Root



Below are seven scans from a 22 page story.



So far:


Batman follows the Queen of Hearts, who after going insane after the death of the Jack of Spades begins to remove the hearts of men with a cordless electric drill, to Rio.



In Rio Batman stumbles upon a Doctor Crosby and his assistant Zeno (the man in yellow) who connected the minds of four mentally deranged patients with a psychedelic root accidentally creating a fifth mind that exists in a strange ethereal reality and feeding on the minds of those exposed a serum created from the root.



We last left our hero and the Queen fighting in the lab of Dr. Crosby and both being exposed to the idiot root serum.

Batman snaps out the trance and captures an escaping Zeno.





While Zeno and the Bat fly to where Crosby is holding his sacrificial boys in the jungle the Idiot somewhat materializes and crashes the plane.





Crosby's boys attack and overwhelm the stunned Batman and then...

DC sure loves to have their heroes shoot up. Was it in Green Lantern 86 where Hal gets knocked in the head, shot up with heroin and makes a giant grotesque version of himself?

I don't know the issue, but it sounds like that Denzel Washington "Ricochet". The cop gets capture, shot up with heroin and raped by a prostitute (DC does that too, man rape that is, and woman rape as well (I guess rape in general)).

I guess its all in the name of putting your hero or heroine through as much as possible.

No, he puts the idea in there, and when the brain starts to reject the idea, that gives him a handhold, so to speak, which allows him to 'unravel' the mind.

So is the Queen all right here, or has she just had her mind absorbed? (Unless, of course, that'll give away the next bit.)
Also, any chance of posting some of the previous adventures of the Queen and Jack, if you have them?

She was created just for this story, so any references to past stories were never seen.

Oh. Well, that's a shame.

I agree.

She's the most interesting character in the arc and is brain dead by the second issue.

Oh well - no one's ever REALLY dead in comics. Perhaps some writer will bring her back at some point. Really, given her name, I'm surprised she hasn't been already - Gotham has been good to Wonderland-themed villains.

Man, Jim Aparo Batman will always be my Batman. Gorgeous.

Jim could certainly do a definitive Batman but his style was always a little too rigid and stiff for me. Plus...every other character he draws has the same face.
