Oh you knew it was coming. From The Long Halloween and Dark Victory

Some of their many fabulous moments...
And trust me, it's worth it coz Sale draws a gorgeous Selina and a handsome Bruce...

Long Halloween
(10 scans from the two GNs, which are more than 100 pages each)

Bats is thanking Selina for saving him/Bruce from Ivy's clutches.

Whatever you have to say about Loeb, you can't deny he writes some dayum good Bat/Cat scenes. Much love.

From Dark Victory, the sequel to The Long Halloween.

This reminds me of the scene from Batman '89 where Bruce and Vicki Vale are sitting at the ginormous table and Vicki yells... "Could you pass the SALT??!"

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH ALFRED!!!

Great stuff. I still can't see who would have thought he was a good fit for Captian America...

But still better than Morrison's run.

Exactly what I was thinking. Followed by "You wanna get out of here?"

Well, if Loeb must crib ideas from other Bat-stories (as he did in this arc from the Two-Face classic "Eye of the Beholder) then that was a nice one to crib.

Also: She's stealing his food! Thief!

Seriously! I hate when people grab food off others' plates, thinking it's "cute." Should post a relevant Dilbert comic sometime.

You don't do it because it's "cute," you do it because your dad/best friend/lover/whoever has a perfectly good steak lying there that s/he isn't eating and it would be shameful to let it go to waste. (Or because you're at a restaurant and everyone ordered something different, but it works at the dinner table too, because stir fry that's still in the pan is leftovers but stir fry on someone's plate ends up in the trash or the dog bowl if someone else doesn't take it.)

I fully believe you, [insanejournal.com profile] bluefall, that that's why you do it. As do others who are mindful of waste. But I assume in such cases you and others either first ask, "Are you going to finish that?" or wait until the person has pushed the plate away or left the table or otherwise signalled they're done.

What I was talking about is people who jab a fork into your plate and take a huge gob of food, without asking, while you're still eating, and in some cases when you've just gotten your food and were just about to dig in. I've known people like that and yes, they usually do it with a big "Lookit me, isn't this cute" grin on their face. That isn't cute; it's rude. No, they're not "bad" people, just individuals who perhaps were never corrected when they picked up that habit.

Catwoman, however, can eat off of any plate she pleases.

I think the reason she's doing it here, though, is to try and get a reaction - any reaction - out of Bruce. I mean, look at him - he's just sitting there like a dark, brooding lump. The man is NOT good at keeping up relationships - she's not being rude so much as mischievous. 'Well, if YOU'RE not going to do anything, I'll just come and have some of your food, then! Ooh, what a nice big piece of turkey this is! Do you want it? Hello? All righty, then - down the hatch!' One imagines that after about thirty seconds of this, he sort of growled and said 'Selina - are you trying to tell me something?'

It's rather all in the context. Some people can pull it off, some can't. With Selina and Bruce's past, she can. This is of course from the outsiders view of knowing Batman and Bruce are the same. And, of course, in bottom top relationships it's a nice excuse to punish.

I actually like a couple of these, at least for the art. I never actually (cough) finished Dark Victory. Then again, the best-looking scenes here are the ones where there aren't any prominent human figures, or at least any detailed ones. Lots of nice lighting and colors in Dark Victory--maybe it's the colors, not the lines that look good. Must investigate further.

I keep wondering, if Loeb was put on Batman again, would he be good again?

Could he be worse than modern-day Morrison?

Date: 2009-04-28 07:32 pm (UTC)

Not unless he had Batman putting GOD ALMIGHTY in a headlock (using preptime to pull it off). Morrison's already had Batgod take down The Devil and The God of Evil, and Batgod's currently showing Death Itself who's boss. It's hard for anyone to be worse than that.

Considering that "Hush" sucks and his work with Tim Sale actually isn't that good, no.

Ahhh, I love the Loeb/Sale Batman epically, but the BatCat stuff was the best. :3

Loeb's Hush and Long Halloween were my introduction to the DC Universe. Seven months later and I'm still here, so he must have done a good job! :3

I dunno...I remember when I first bought them off Amazon I came to scans_daily to see some scans and everybody seemed so negative :( I almost cancelled my order, but I'm glad I didn't ^.^ As I was also introduced to Tim Sale and Jim Lee, and I adore their artwork now ;D

It totally is a toy.

Quick thinking, bringing Alfred's muffins. Nobody's going to shut the door on that.

I think she wanted a muffin because some naughty kitty knocked her breakfast on the floor... Alfred for the win! XD

I can't help but to laugh at the ending, since it reminds me of Tag & Bink Were Here.

"The catch and release principle," indeed.

This is by...Loeb?
But...it's good. Now I'm starting to regret not listening to my comic book dealer when he told me to buy it.

Again...Loeb? The Loeb who did "Ultimates" 3?

THESE bits are good.

But the rest of these books are, by and large, ridden with plot holes, one-note characterizations, ridiculous leaps in logic, and headdeskingly cliched dialogue.

Plus, if you take a sip of beer for every ellipsis Loeb throws in there, you'll be dead of alcohol poisoning by chapter six.

Loeb's DC stuff is all pretty good. 7/10 and up.

It's his Marvel stuff that's....well a bit.....bad.
