Later, Tora uses her powers in front of Marius's father, the head of the clan. Though he doesn't see her, Marius and Elsa decide to run away with Tora.

Several years later, Marius's father catches up with them.


As the men attack Marius and try taking Tora away, he tells her to "make it colder than you ever have before" and "freeze it all!"

So Tora is now part of a Gypsy clan, princess in fact, who expressly want to use her to steal and take things.

This is...I mean they changed her whole ethnicity? What kind of retcon is this? Why doesn't DC understand that everybody liked Tora because she was sweet and well-mannered and not like every other angst hero in their stable?

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the big deal is. Tora wasn't who she was because of her origin, and the current origin is little more than a speed bump on the way to her being like she was before. Besides, Winick has been writing her as pretty sullen since the beginning. It's not like it changes much.

Tora is a SCANDANAVIAN ICE PRINCESS. I can accept Max being evil. I can accept Ted being dead. I can accept Guy being elsewhere.

But Tora is NICE and SWEET and still strong not in spite of but because of that, and I honestly wonder if maybe Winick had never actually read anything with her in it, just kind of came up with this stereotypy angst ice backstory and thought HEY I CAN USE THAT because it blatantly contradicts everything to the point where it ISN'T EVEN FUNNY.

I'm seriously considering dropping this series now, and this makes me sad because I do like many many other things about it.

Wouldn't it just be easy to assume she IS still a snow princess but that a bunch of her people believed her to be a resurrected goddess? And as hyperactivator mentioned up the chat that any other discrepancy is Max's mind poobah at work?

... And also dumb metacommentary on how a reserved and gentle nature can never be a woman's TRUE state, her unleashed and liberated must be a witty snarky firecracker. If Tora is back to normal after this, whatever, I can deal with the fact that this negates a ton of JLI stories, including when Wonder Woman and Ted and the entire JLI went to her kingdom, met her people, met her SICK FATHER, when Tora fought her brother, and when Guy went to her mother after Tora was killed.
