So, recently Kate Beaton made some comments on Twitter about how sometimes guys that like her work will respond with comments she finds creepy/uncomfortable/offensive.

Gabby's Playhouse then did a webcomic entitled "How Every Single Discussion About Sexism and Woman-Type Stuff on the Internet (and real life) Has Ever Happened And Ever Will Happen, Always, Forever, Until the Earth Finally Falls Into The Sun. (Or until the patriarchy is finally dismantled.)"

I don't quite get that last panel, but the rest of it is kinda recognizable.

Intersectionality!
hmm never heard of it.

no i know that men, regardless of sexuality are capable of "male privilage" in my experience though i have seen more gay men on the side of women when it comes to matters of feminism and sexism. hell i know gay men who would be ready to in the words of the great Kathy Griffin "Cut a bitch" if thier girl friends were accosted like that :)

i know what the comic is trying to say just makes it seem like all men are bastards...

i am probably reading WAAAAY too much into a web comic

that said, i totally support her point of view as it is a very valid one (though in all honesty those type of responses are not exclusive to women internet trolls will troll anything that moves:)

Yes, it is possible that some gay (or even straight) men are sympathetic to the feminist cause, but I've also known a number of sexist gay men. Being gay doesn't give guys a pass on that.

Intersectionality relates to kyriarchy, the idea that all oppressions intersect and prop up each other. So, in a nutshell, a white cis middle-class gay man may suffer oppression for his lack of het privilege, but he still benefits from his white, male, and middle-class privileges (and that doesn't even get into TAB or neurotypical privilege).

not trying to say it gives them a pass. most gay men i know are very... pro woman? anti-sexist? femenist? don't really know what to call it. i guess it depends on where you grow up, what you are brought up in and who you surround yourself with.

that is not to say i have not come across gay men , or men in general who are anti-feminism.

this subject, as well as others like it are very touchy even amongst itself. gay men have thier own sub divisions, as well as femisists and the like. thre are "straight acting" men who "frown upon " the "flamers". flamboyant men who think "straigh acting" men are fooling themselves.

so in feminism and the like there are right and left wing feminists. even they have in fighting where one side thinks the other is too feminist or not femisnist enough.

i think the real goal should be not to agree with eachother, because to be honest not everyone will agree on everything all of the time, but instead to respect one another's beliefs and ideals even if we don't agree with them. corection ESPECIALLY when you don't agree with them.

i myself am a gay man (not that that matters) who is very Pro-Women. i have always had an admirations for strong, and powerful women, both in and out of comics, but i also respect a woman who chooses to be a mother, and raise a family. more power to those who are able to balance both, i dont know if i could EVER do that.

hell in my opinion i at times think Women are MUCH stronger than men.

i didn't intend this to be this long, but i hope i was able to get across what i was trying to say.

Hmm that sounds like an intersting concept, one i know conceptually but not practically (ie didn't know it had a name ect.)

I think any "beliefs and ideals" that play into oppression should be fought rather than tolerated, actually. The ones that don't, like your example of flamboyant vs. "passing" gays (which i think is typically called horizontal homophobia?), sure, that's a live-and-let-live, because it's not really anyone else's place to define how you should experience your life as a gay man.
