Three pages from CBR's preview of X-Men: To Serve and Protect.

Why?

Because I'm an Anole fan.

I think that Chris Yost would have made a pretty good successor on Runaways after BKV left. He's good at writing teenage superhero drama/comedy.

Of course, he's never gonna live down the whole thing with the kids on the bus.

He made it up for it to me with the rest of the New Mutant/X-Men run and Spectacular Spider-Man.

I'll never get over the bus thing, but there are worse things than I writer who's view as being "a really good writer almost all the time, except for..."

Did you read the Runaways one-shot he pinned? It was an oasis of awesome in between the total suck of Moore and the wasted opportunities with Immonen.

Oh yeah, and the Secret Invasion mini was really good too.

The Molly-fest Destiny Story was indeed awesome.

But there was entirely too much focus on Xavin during the Secret Invasion mini, plus the art didn't really help much.

The only problem I had with the Secret Invasion tie-in was misleading advertising; it was less a Runaways / Young Avengers crossover then it was a Runaways mini guest-starring two of the Young Avengers.

The fact that it focused on Xavin really didn't bother me at all, because A) it was the first story we ever had where Xavin was the focus, and B) it was a Skrull invasion, so it made sense to focus on her. No comment about the art, though - Miyazawa has always been polarizing.

I totally lost interest in the series somewhere in the middle of Whedon's run and never went back, so I totally had no idea he even did a one-shot.
