Based on the other post I'm guessing he chose to go for a career that would be personally fulfilling, rather than just one he was good at.

Though this does beg the question why no one has ever asked why reporter Clark Kent doesn't use his mad science skills to help solve a lot of the world's problems. (Like presumably how to resalinate the ocean).

But like the plot of this comic is that Clark basically just got out of Smallville Junior College, when he's clearly well more than smart enough to have gone anywhere on scholarship.

It just seems like one more bit of the ridiculous contortions this comic goes to in order to make Clark's gifts into a burden.

What motive would he have to pursue further formal education? He's clearly more than capable of learning on his own, judging by this scene. Nor would he have any difficulty finding a job, again judging by this scene.

So even given that he still has some growing to do and those football players are likely to be tall, yea, he's probably shorter than main DC Clark.

Not really seeing where Clark is acting "emo". He's confidently approaching a variety of business opportunities that he knows he's good at and can take care of him and his mom forever. If he's also a little conflicted because he knows his dad would have preferred him do something else, that's hardly emo.

I really don't get where all the complaining about Clark being "emo" is coming from; yes, he's a little introspective throughout "Earth One", but from his perspective, he's (it's implied relatively recently) lost his father, he's a young man trying to figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life (and trying to juggle this with what his parents have made pretty clear they would like him to do) and, on top of everything, he's as far as he knows the only person on the planet with superpowers. I'm not surprised he's doing a little soul-searching, but it's not like the book is cover-to-cover whining or anything; if anything, he's quite restrained.

SCIENCE DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT either. It's not about finding the right magic equation--anyone can do that. It's about either accumulating the experimental evidence to support the equation, or showing how to derive it from an existing theory. By and large you can't do that in four lines no matter how supergenius you is.

Which is not a big deal when you see scientists in, say, Deadpool. It's just weird in something like this, where they're apparently trying to depict Clark's godly performance in other careers halfway seriously.

I kinda like the idea of Clark Kent being someone who COULD have been an incredible success in any one of a number of fields due to his intrinsic abilities, but chose instead to be a moderate success and help people. I can see why others wouldn't, but...

Yeah, I guess that IS a bit of a groaner. In the Silver Age, he probably would have used 'super-hypnosis' or something to make the people he approached forget all about him - maybe he'll do something similar here.

That or when Lex shows up, they decide that why have the reluctant second place when there's someone a little smarter whose willing to actually "do something" with it.

You could have done it with three panels, one the guy going in, a second showing Clark waiting, the third with the guy coming out and the SCIENCE HIGH FIVE moment framed in the open door behind him.

The art's really getting in the way here. Clark looks like a complete drip, way beyond playing the mild-mannered part, and the size difference between him and the guys that he hammers at the tryouts makes me wonder why the coach wasn't more suspicious of how someone with so much less apparent mass than the linebackers that he steamrollers over could pull that off. (If he's supermassive, then what happens when he weighs in?) The equation thing is a little more probably, but is just Good Will Hunting adapted to superheroics. Really, the most interesting thing about this is the Neodyne exec's facial hair; he went out of the house with that on his face?
