It really needs the sort of artist who can give him the air of confidence and hyper-masculinity to pull it off; I think that John Romita, Sr. managed it better than Steve Ditko, his co-creator. Mike Zeck made him look all kinds of crazy in "Kraven's Last Hunt", but that was perfectly appropriate both to the story and to Zeck's strengths. Kraven would probably be most at home in a whiskey ad in an early 1970s Playboy.

Yes.

Kraven's Last Hunt is one of the all-time great Spider-Man stories, but when I gave it to my girlfriend to read, she was torn between "This is so powerful and thought-provoking and moving" and "HE HAS A SPLIT KITTY FACE ON HIS CHEST! KITTY FACE!"
