1st of the month.

For those who are recovering from candy high, a little more sweetness in the begining of your week.

Tell me the above wasn't intended for us....

I am particularly fond of this one as I went trick-or-treating with my nephew for his first outing knocking on doors and asking trick or treat. when he got too tired I carried him back home, and as soon as he was out of his costume, he didn't want any of the candy he picked up, he asked for a cookie. My Halloween cookie. And that was the first question I have ever heard him ask.

Now I read Tim and hear my nephew.

For legality:

Oh yay! Thanksgiving is around the corner, things will be getting gross now.

Take off the headdress, Batman.

Well, grosser. All the white folk in their POC costumes for Halloween is always fun.

If J'onn isn't a Person of Colour, I don't know who is. :P

As has been noted, Thanksgiving is an odd thing for this JLA to make a big deal about, as in this iteration it includes two aliens (one of whom happens to look Caucasian by coincidence more than anything), a Greek, an Atlantean and three Caucasian Americans (Though one of them works directly for a non-human run space police organisation)

You forgot little Pilgrim Atom (also a white dude)!

I am going to pretend that this was part of the "Parent Involvement" section of the kids' Thanksgiving pageant. Ollie is currently on a time out, as was Batman until the teacher dragged him out to wear the headdress. Arthur just really loves turkey.

I hadn't noticed Atom until after you mentioned him.

I know you're just kidding around, but particularly in the DC context it's really not that funny anymore, even assuming it was funny to start with.

Thanksgiving is a very immigrant-friendly holiday. You get a day off, eat lots of food with family and friends, and give thanks for the good stuff in your life. Anybody can get into that, and lots of cultures have similar celebrations already - harvest festivals, etc. And there's no pesky Christianity or consumerist BS getting in the way of the celebration for the non-native-born Americans among us. It's actually a great holiday for Americans (or people living in America) who come from different backgrounds to celebrate together.

No, not really. It has no association with any religion and it's not something that you celebrate at a church or other house of worship so far as I know. Yes, it's based on a story about Puritans, but I've never heard a word about God having anything to do with it, or of any religious tradition associated with it. As far as I know, it's about eating turkey with your family. Which is someone of any religion can do. Except for people with religions that require vegetarianism, in which case they can go for Tofurkey. :)

It's, uh, actually pretty colonialist. There are a lot of groups for whom Thanksgiving is not a great holiday, American Indians in particular.

Well, it's been established in the past that the JLA and the JSA get together on Thanksgiving, as I recall.

Yeah, I have to second [personal profile] skalja on this. DC has used the "green dudes are a PoCs!" joke to excuse the particularly faily string of comics they've put out in the last few years, making these cracks even harder to take.

I'd say the coincidentally Caucasian-looking alien qualifies as an American immigrant and I'm not sure you could call WW Greek, since she was born on Themyscira, which is nowhere near Greece and which, culturally, is very different from the Greece of the last couple of millennia.

Maybe it's supposed to be Chief Man of Bats making a stealthy guest appearance while Bruce is out trick or treating.

I'm fairly sure that Batman has been honorarily inducted into at least one Native American tribe at some point, possibly during his Silver Age time travel journeys.

Chief Man of Bats probably did during an adventure with them.

Which actually is cool since it's fun to notice all the rest are just wearing the Pilgrim/settler hat thingamabob instead of putting on feathers and the like. Yay!

May it isn't Batman, but Man-of-Bats. But where's his sidekick, Little Raven?

In accordance with the non-deletion rules, I am letting the above post alone, and bowing my head in shame, thinking I was being clever posting about Man-of-Bats before reading all the other posts before mine.
