The first issue of Captain America: Man Out of Time, a mini-series exploring a recently unthawed Captain America's adjustment to the modern world, came out today. The following scene doesn't actual deal with that subject though, at least not directly, as it takes place in the final days before that fateful ocean fall in 1945.

I almost really like this art - everything but the faces. Not even the faces, I think, the expressions. Still, it looks really good.

I'm really excited about this mini, and I love the characterization of Steve and Bucky so far. Steve adjusting to the modern world is also one of my favourite things, so.

I like the art too. Even if the eyes are a little odd to me, the expressions are really well done.

Much as it's tempting to get this, my allowance's pretty much booked for the next comic run ;P You're right though, the characterizations are niiice.

Yeah, I think maybe the eyes are a little exaggerated... don't let my nitpicking detract from the fact I do think this is really good art! There's space and solidity and it's pretty expressive, and I adore Steve's body language. It's just a little off, for some reason.

I shall probably trade-wait; I am trying to cut down on the amount of things I own. *sigh*

Yeah, the expressions are kinda ... exaggerated, aren't they? But stiff at the same time. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Yeah, I can't quite... IDK. It's still great compared to some of the other art out there, mind. It's just not quite unmitigated squee from me.

Yeah, I'm really confused by Barnes' expression in the second to last panel. He almost looks disgusted, and I'm not sure that's what they were going for.

I think he is disgusted/exasperated, actually - he's all "The world is your oyster, and you want to sleep? STEVE YOU LOSER!"

Can someone tell me when it was agreed that Cap's mask looks better without the wings? Because it doesn't.

I think the artist might have taken it from Ultimates

In Bryan Hitch's design, Ultimate Captain America doesn't have wings on his cowl. In addition, I think his armour is less scale mail and more... well, dunno, kevlar and sleek? But the way how the Ultimates iconography has shaped it, I can see why the artist would have been mistaken.

It's weird because when he wakes up in the modern day, the wings are there, even though he's still wearing the costume he was frozen in.

Um... I'm hoping that in the picture for that magazine, Steve was just moving so fast that the wings flattened down to the sides of his mask with the air pressure so we can't see them? Or maybe he has several copies of the suit, and this is the one and only without the wings? Because I like the little wings. A lot.

Some of the facial expressions look a little.... eh?... but overall, this is some nice art. And the story! I think I'm going to have to pick up a copy of this, if I ever find the time to track down one (maybe when it comes out in trades? dunno.). And OMG Steve is super adorable, and Bucky is just a huggable wonderful foil to him, and... Squee.
