Someone can correct me on this - but wasn't there a Batgirl between Babs and Steph? Someone Steph knew much better than Jason the Criminal? Someone who gave Steph the friggin Batgirl costume in the first place? Or was I just imagining it? What is is with Miller that for over a year now he can never bring up a certain someone's name especially since a certain someone will be appearing in another Batman book later this month so whatever embargo was on her is OVER? Just asking. Maybe I misremembering.

Also Dustin Nguyen rocks. I wish DC would just give him a Lil Gotham book to draw so he can do whatever he wants.

I almost asked when I posted the pages on the Tumblr if would someone put together a panel with Cass. I still might. I think a panel right after the Damian one with Cass looking sad and Steph wearing Cass' costume saying "and Cass got sent away and told me to be Bagirl." would work.

Cass is in the Lil' Gotham poster. Granted, she's wearing her costume, but she still looks adorable.

I can't even be miffed that she's not mentioned here, because the rest of it is so glorious.

It could be because it seems to be focusing on characters that transition into new identities. Jason became Red Hood, Babs became Oracle, Tim became Red Robin, Bruce is... in another identity at the moment, and Damian... well, he was probably thrown in for laughs. Cass has only ever been Batgirl; she didn't have a secret identity before that. (Of course, Steph should have thrown HERSELF into the discussion, since SHE is now Batgirl, but that's another story.)

I kinda wish they'd waited until Cass' appearance in Red Robin before doing this so that we'd get Cass in whatever new costume she'll be using. If she has a new costume by then.

But then we wouldn't have this right now. I'm conflicted.

Steph doesn't actually mention her origin either.

Yeah, the story isn't about a complete history of the batbooks, but instead "people who transition into roles that are very different to who they were before".

So why didn't she mention herself?

They're different roles but they're also very much the same for her?

Dick goes from a very innocent Robin to "I'm an acrobat!" to ...well, Batman and it's been noted a lot that Dick's entire demeanour has changed after he became Batman. Jason went from Robin to a criminal, Babs went from someone delighted to be a superhero to someone who is grumpy and irritable, Tim went from a nerd to the far more grim and gritty Red Robin.

But Stephanie's approach to all three of her roles has been the same. So she hasn't been irrevocably altered by her roles, same as Cass.

I disagree.

As Spoiler, her motivation was thwarting her father, and later making up for her father's crimes and proving that a criminal's child could be honest.

As Robin, her motivation was proving herself as a capable hero, showing that she was good enough to to fight side by side with the other heroes.

As Batgirl, her motivation is much more focused on simply helping people. She has worked out her daddy issues and become much more confident and baggage-free.

I would definitely say that her approach to the three roles is very different.

I suppose what I'm getting at is that she hasn't been broken in the same way that everyone else has. She's one of the few who becoming a superhero has actually ended up more beneficial to her.

Actually, I'd say Spoiler was pretty focused on just helping people too, after her first several appearances.
