Well, Art Baltazar obviously did his homework. Melody being all bubbly-headed, Archie and friends in their superhero outfits, Mad Doctor Doom lurking in the bushes - any long-standing Archie nerd would squeal like mad at this. (I have no idea what's going on with Mr. Weatherbee, though.)

We discovered in Issue 1 that Slade and Trigon know Mr. Weatherbee from way back as the "Killer Bee" (or something similar) and they were all going to get together after work. But apparently he got stood up.

Slade's such a jerk.
