Somewhat over-looked in between the talk of a new creative team, a toyetic new costume, the return of the Hobgoblin, and a misguided attempt at convincing America that someone actually likes Carlie Cooper as a romantic interest there was a really nice little 9-page Araña back-up story where Anya and Spider-Man team-up.

Incidentally Marvel's actually set-up an official Spider-Girl Twitter. Just because Nomad wasn't in this story doesn't mean there wasn't subtext.

Unless they bring back Lynn from her last book. In which case we're having a totally shipping triangle.

I just love how everyone assumes they're related, it's just like when Katie asked Spider-Woman if she was Spider-Man's sister.

And yes this was the most enjoyable part of that issue (second most enjoyable being the Avengers and Flash and Betty moments). I am still adjusting to Anya being Spider-Girl but so far I'm liking Paul Tobin's stuff.

Anya stole nothing. The name was unclaimed and fair game on Earth 616.

From an in-story perspective, no Anya didn't steal the name. But Anya got the name and a new book a few months after Mayday's book was canceled for good.

From a real world perspective that was definitely a bit... fast.

Fast maybe but... eh it doesn't bother me. May's book had an absurdly long life for an alt-universe title and "Spider-Girl" in the big scheme of things is a brand name that could have some marketing clout. From a pure business standpoint it makes more sense to have the name attached to an Earth 616 character. Like if they want to do another Spider-Man cartoon a few years down the line.

Please note that all preview images should be no larger than 400 x 300 pixels.

In addition, this appears to be a panel from the interior of a recent comic and as such counts as a spoiler.

Since both contravene our posting rules for preview images, please place the image behind the cut.

Thank you.

You know, even without the context for these scans, that part's just funnier. As if Thor just whizzed by ("HeySpideyoffbeingawesome!") and Peter just thought, "Exhibit A."

Yes, you are right (it bothered me too), but hey, everyday English is messy and not grammatically correct.

Well, in MU New York (and presumably, most other big cities), such things probably happen all the time. If you read between the lines, there's probably all sorts of moments we don't get to see where heroes interact briefly with each other on the way to their respective cases. 'Hey, Spidey.' 'Oh, hey, Moon Knight. Where ya goin'?' 'Ah, some cheap hood down on the docks thinks he's the new Capone. You?' 'After Doc Ock again.' 'Well, good luck.' 'Same to you.' Probably happens all the time.
And, yes, true, but one of the things that MAKES it messy is that people stop to correct themselves when they flub their grammar, as they should. If that were me, I probably would have gone 'There is an... d'ahhh, whoops, 'scuse me, there ARE...'

Well, I'll admit I can't exactly whip out any particular rules of the English language to prove my point, but it doesn't SOUND right to me. As someone who writes a lot, it's not a phrase I'd use.

"Unless you're Thor"

Spidey speaks the truth.

That also applies to Cap, Logan, Squirrel Girl, Rocket Raccoon, Galactus, etc.

But seriously it's nice to see a street-level hero acknowledge there is a difference between them and those can shatter mountains with their hands.
