I'm torn between disliking how mean-spirited and cleverly cruel (and of course vaguely sexist, even if it is primarily Damian's sexism it relies on) and therefore un-Impulse Bart's comment is, and loving he and Rose to microscopic pieces for that brilliant little exchange.

See, I don't think Bart is being remotely cruel or sexist there, he's being his usual literal self.

Remember that Bart has masses of trivia in his head, from remembering everything he's ever read, I think he's quite genuinely listing the names of baby birds that he knows because Rose asked him, it's ROSE who makes the snarky comment, not Bart.

Eh, the look on his face when Rose repeats the insult is a little too smug for him to not know what he's saying, IMO.

Doesn't look smug to me. He looks more...toked out than anything.

Well, yes. But Bart metabolizes drugs in seconds, so we must seek an alternate interpretation.

Yes, but he is also fast enough to ingest more between panels. It's his creative soloution for 'disposing' of all the illegal drugs in the city.

Yeah, that's not a smug look to me, that's just... well, I'm not sure what emotion it is to be honest, (which is unusual for Nicola Scott who is usually excellent at faces) distractedness possibly, or maybe boredom.

It...just doesn't feel Bart-ish. He's lost the unique charm he had as Impulse, the charm that would make this situation funny and not forced, and no-one's been able to catch the spark again.

Oh agreed on that one, Bart as Kid Flash has never been remotely as much fun as Bart as Impulse and it's another reason I dislike John's Titans run as much as I do, it was a nonsensical move (aside from brand recognition).

It's just in this precise instance I didn't see any real malice on his part.
