For weakness week I scanned more Emp pages than I ended up using in the post, so here's another post of the awesomeness that is Emp for you :)

Just look at her there! Elissa can really look intimidating when she has to, it's easy to forget she has the whole "whited-out eyes" thing going for her when she's not kicking ass with her 'grr' face on.

Now, on to Emp being put through her paces by her kickass friend Ninjette :)

Emp's line: "Oh, like I'm not already self-concious enough about my chubby back side in the first place!"

Plasma bolt!

First panel: "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea..."
Third panel: "Don't roll your eyes at me buddy!"

Yea, shark! Jeese, what a jerk!

One page and one panel from Emp vol 1, one panel from Empowered vol 3
Empowered by Adam Warren

How come it didn't eat her arm?

The suit's pretty good against preventing crushing, even when somewhat ripped.

IIRC shark's jaws work more like a saw than simply crushing/biting into their prey. The bottom jaw holds it in place while the upper cuts into it. Or was it the other way around? Dang Animal Planet for only coming out on satellite channels around here. I only get to watch it on holidays when I visit my parents, so kinda rusty.

But anyways, comedic effect trumps nitpicking. Disbelief suspended.

The suit still works when it's ripped?

Yes and no. The powers cut out in turn with amount of damage (and confidence also matters). Her strength's probably at 75% there in the first page, but her plasma blasts are already super-finicky.

How ripped she is is something of a power gauge.

It still protects her even if it is ripped so much that none of her other powers work.

I meant about the superstrength and the beams and whatnot, in scan one. I guess q99 answers that bit.

Question: how does her suit get fixed every time? Is it a self-healing sentient alien or something?

I haven't read the most recent volume, so this might have been elaborated on some more than I remember. The suit is implied to be at least somewhat sentient. It has moved around without Emp wearing it. The suit repairs itself, but it depends on Emp's self-esteem and (because it's Empowered) having sex.

There's no link between sex and it's capabilities that we know, other than Emp feeling more confident when she's getting some ^^

That, and it does make her a bit more, uh, sensitive ;) But that's more a power than a limit.

I love Empowered. I always list it among my favorites, mostly because I wish one of my comic book reading friends would just listen to my pleas and read it to humor me.

That scene with the shark terrifies me. Every time. Terrifying.

That's pretty damn brave of Emp there, considering that one little rip in her sleeve from that shark's teeth leaves her arm vulnerable to biting-offishness.

Even slightly rip, enough of the rest of her suit is intact that I think she'd be ok.

Also, that shark is a jerk!

She expects him to not perpetuate unfair stereotypes! Great Whites don't even view humans as food in general, only attacking by mistake.

He (she?) really should know better.

True, but I doubt that most people's first reaction, upon getting their arm chomped by a Great White, would be 'how dare you! That's perpetuating a stereotype!' I think mine would be more like 'AAAAAAA!'
