Date: 2010-12-02 04:55 am (UTC)It does bring up something I always had a problem with - especially from characters like Fire or Alan Scott or Mr. Terrific for that matter- I don't think they would be involved with Checkmate (even a newly reformulated one) after the Blue Beetle incident. The only part of the WWIII mini-series that came out of 52 that I looked was how they showed how dedicated J'onn J'onzz was to eradicating Checkmate in the name of Ted and Dmitri and Ralph and the others and his anger when the UN recreated it. I would have expected other heroes other than J'onn to loathe the Checkmate name (especially Bruce who had gone up against them before when they initially had Sasha Bourdeux "killed" and recruited her for life) and go after it.

Date: 2010-12-02 04:57 am (UTC)Fire and Ice make for a very interesting pair, not just because they have such different powers and personalities, but because they've got such different cultural backgrounds. I mean, Bea's from Brazil, and Tora's from... well, some lost ice-city somewhere. I imagine if we could hear them talking, Bea would have a Portugese accent, while Tora would probably sound vaguely Scandinavian. It would make for a rather interesting auditory blend, I would think.

Date: 2010-12-02 07:44 am (UTC)It's a very cute scene. Happened in Birds in Prey. Dead of Winter storyline, I think. It's really good.

Date: 2010-12-02 01:41 pm (UTC)Honestly, they bent over backwards to make Checkmate cool and moral. I'm not surprised no one had an issue with the name/history, the way it was written.
