It's not scans_daily without an image out of context. Marvel was kind enough to grace us with such an image. Newsarama has wordless art that we can have fun with.

One behind the cut.

Panel 1. - "I know what you're thinking, darlin'. You've got these enhanced senses now and you want to walk the sky, taste the air, race the moonlight. You want out and..."

Panel 2. - "You don't get it, Logan. I do want these things, now that I've gone through these... changes.... but I don't want out."

Panel 3. - "I want 'in'."

Panel 4. - "I have cravings that I can't deny, and I need me some of the "ol' one eye".

Panel 5. - "Jubes, I don't think Emma will take to kindly to you making a morsel out of Scott. I mean, she will tear you a-"

Panel 6. - "Oh. You're not talking about Cyclops. This is more a "True Blood" thing than a "Twilight" issue, isn't it?"

I hate this 'vampires are just people' trend.

It's funny since Vampires used to be the European equivelent of Chupacabras.

Can you imagine sexing those things up?

I blame Stoker and the Victorian sexual prudery.

A variety of Greek vampire swells and gets fat as they drink blood..."like a tick."

I like the variable nature of 'vampires' in the Dresden Files. White Court succubi/incubi, Red Court nightmarish bat-creatures, Black Court undead fiends, and whatever the Jade Court (heretofore unseen) are...

I keep trying to figure out what a stereotypical Jade Court vampire would be (assuming far eastern)..and I just remembered dhampirs. They were the best ones to hunt vampires because, in the middle/far east vampires were invisible, and the dhampirs were the only ones who could see them.

"Heretofore unseen"..ha ha.

That is exactly the kind of joke Jim Butcher would make...I now subscribe to this theory.

I have a terrible feeling I know what the Jade Court would look like, because I suspect Jim Butcher shares my love for Hammer horror...

The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is gleefully rubbish, but has entertained me through several dull Sunday afternoons.

I have this book that said about how vampires in Eastern Europe were originally perceived. In one, they're basically explanations of how a widow got pregnant after her husband. No, I'm serious. She would CLAIM her dead husband came back from the dead and crawled into the bed, sexed her up, and presumably crawled back into the dirt and never seen again. Baby 9monthsish later, and if he doesn't look exactly like daddy, it's because of semi-dead jizz.

Seriously.

I thought that was the origin for a dhampire, half vampire kids that were very useful for getting rid of vampires. Vampires were just dead folks that couldn't be bothered to stay that way.

That explanation for bastard children is almost as awesome as the incubus argument "a demon came in and sexed me up!"

I seem to recall there being some superstition that a demon would become a sucubus - seduce a man, get his seed and then become an incubus and go at it with a lady. So the kid was completely human, just was the product of demonic intervention.

That was the explanation for dhampires, yes. Just meant that was one instance of how a vampire presence/offspring was explained. Another case on record is a town where a corpse or corpses from a graveyard started coming up out of the graves because of waterlogging. Somehow, the populace were convinced that these were the undead and somehow demonically possessed despite the fact they were pretty much swollen and didn't do anything but stink up the place.

So they drag one of the corpses into a church. Sealed it, with all the townspeople within plus the local priest and clergy. In the summer season. With a bloated, water logged corpse. Apparently, they saw the gas and felt queasy, and that was evidence of demons! Not the methane escaping from a very ripe corpse on the altar.

Interestingly, they do refer to that as a vampire, not a zombie that I would've thought. Then again zombie also refers to those entranced into a 'zombified' state, e.g via hoodoo. So maybe the definitions got mixed up only in modern times.

Sort of why True Blood turned me off after a while. I mean, it was refreshing at first, but then devolved into repetition of "SOOKAAAAAY! SOOOKAAAAAAAY!" to the point they LAMPSHADED THIS THEMSELVES; and the general weirdness at the way people react to vampires. They're sort of treating it like its a subculture I guess, but most normal emerging subcultures don't usually involve cannibalism and foodchain issues.

Also, inconsistency. Sometimes the blood is magical, sometimes it makes people horny, sometimes it makes people kooky, somehow none of the bad side effects appears to happen to Sookie or she creates a new condition to vampiric blood ingestion all by herself. The writers are literally making shit up as they go along.

And on vampiric blood. All fluids from a vampire in that show is blood, this includes tears. This must include the jizz. Which after I pointed out to my sis who's a much bigger fan, that after sex should be just like you've gone through menstruation, she told me to stop talking.
