Locke & Key - Head Games
Dec. 21st, 2010 12:47 amMy last Locke & Key post ended near the climax of the first TPB. So instead of spoiling the ending, let's skip ahead to some scene early in the second "season" of Locke & Key.
It all starts with Bode finding another magic key. But this one is different. It doesn't seem to open any door...

(From issues #2, #3 and #4 of Locke & Key: Head Games)

They freak out (Ty most of all) and their mom comes in asking what's with the racket?

Like stick books in their heads. Turns out doing so allows them the book's every word (though understanding doesn't come automatically). Ty decides to use this to catch up on some schoolwork.

Later on, they show off the key to their new friend, Zack.

BESTEST PLAN. NOTHING BAD CAN COME OF THIS.

Date: 2010-12-21 07:44 am (UTC)I love how the mom is like 'hmm? Oh, that. Yeah, kinda freaky. Damn the fishsticks.' Clearly, she's seen this before.
I dunno...
Date: 2010-12-21 08:14 am (UTC)I don't think it's something the Mom sees before; for some reason, I think the supernatural forces at work here can only and/or wants to influence all the children (particularly this family). For the adults, the magic makes them either disbelieve it or act lethargic to it.
And trust me, as much as I'd love to look and find unexplored regions of my brain, the thought of my nightmares coming out, being real and possibly escaping (yeah, a glass soda bottle; totally unbreakable[/sarcasm]) makes me more than willing to get the hell away from that key.
"Nifty"? Perhaps. God Freakin' "can be abused and will end up causing a bigger mess that measures up to catastrophic proportions"? The fact that they can't suspect this makes me want to hold a big sign to their faces saying "ARE YOU THAT DENSE?!"

Date: 2010-12-21 03:52 pm (UTC)To be fair, that'd make anyone get drunk all the time.
Although the Mom has her moments too; she impressed me with her "Mama Bear" bit when she bought the gun the instant she was informed that her husband's killer got loose and said that she wouldn't hesitate to kill him if her dared showed up.
