*sigh* So issue #4 is where this series starts to go bad, huh?

My literal, actual response to this:

I made that face and everything.

Ah, Millar. You just HAVE to do this, don't you?

I never once thought I'd say this, but...I have some interest in seeing where this goes. Part of it is the usual "oh Millar." But another part makes me think this could concievably be an interesting place to take the story--a kid is given great power through an entity trying to corrupt him, and he triumphs over it. Thus far we've only seen him doing good, and I suspect that's the route this is going.

On the other hand... Mark Millar. He has yet to miss an opportunity to, well, miss an opportunity. So I await developments with interest, forlorn hope and a bit of dread.

Millar often has great ideas, but always takes a left turn to Albuquerque that screws them up.

True. For some reason I can't see that happening here--the cynicism isn't quite present enough. So if it comes out of left field, it'll be waaaay out of left field. So I am very cautiosly optimistic.

Leinal Yu is knocking it out of the park, though. I hope he's not called upon to draw something horrible.

It's so weird you said that

Because I just finished reading nemisis. And, of course, that is exactly what happened.

So, the entity might be a monkey from the space program and got its wish-fulfilling power from cosmic rays?

That's about the least sinister interpretation of "the opposite of an angel" I can imagine right now.

Yes, it might be that it does not view ITSELF as anything like an angel. It's an ambiguous phrasing at best.

I inherently don't trust a comic that says "this comic rocks" right on the cover.

This is only made worse by my deep-seated terror of monkeys.

Hurm.

I was gonna say, how do you do a cover like that without it being ironic.

I assumed it was based on the draw of "these two guys on the cover ARE ABOUT TO MAKE OUT!"

But somehow I doubt that was the intended message.

Right? It's like it's aiming the comic at the adolescent 18 year old reader but without giving the adolescent 18 year old reader ANY credit first.

Ok...someone needs to send the artist a catalog or something for clothes. It looks almost like he's drawn the same bikini on every single woman in the first couple of scans. Thats just ridiculous.

Also...who decided that the "this comic rocks" message was a good idea? Seriously? This comic is trying too damn hard.
