Welcome to day 27 of [community profile] scans_daily's 30 Days of Winter celebration. Sorry it's so late, but today's theme is Funny Comics!

In 1982, What If #34 was an all-comedy issue, full of more pitches than they could've made into full issues. Here are a few samples, about 8 of 37 pages.

So, what are your favorites?
And stay tuned tomorrow, when we'll be discussing Horror Comics! As always, you can see our full schedule to be sure you don't miss a day.

ok for some reason Scott and Jean going to see Ordinary People has me lolling

Favorite funny comic for me is Azumanga Daioh. Every time I pick up my omnibus it's near impossible to put down (the dream sequences! "Hawk! Eggplant!").

Although at that point it was a joke about 5 years old...the only way you were going to see OP was in VHS.

While I love Azumanga the manga (heh) I always felt the anime was superior, te superlative comic timing doesen't come across as well inw th 4koma format, and the voice-acting and music helps a lot with te humor too.

I LOVED this.

Funniest of the funny for me, forever, is Nextwave.

I think its funny that most of the people from the Howard the Duck DID end up on Pet Avengers (Hell Devil Dinosaur even guest starred)

Also, the Avengers overpopulation actually WAS a few times in the comic.

And Ant-Man's old associate Emma would be a great addition! :)

The Pet Avengers is sorely lacking a representative from the most abundant group on the planets; the insects. Maybe a rebellious member of the Swarm collective!

I don't read that many straight-ahead humor comics, but I guess offhand my favorite would be 'Mister O', by Lewis Trondheim. Very, very funny.

Is it just me, or does Howard the Duck's Super team look like a prototype of the Pet Avengers?

Glorious, glorious What-Ifs.

The Spidey/Thinker one will always be pure gold.

I will, however, always blame it for making me aware of the title ATLAS SHRUGGED, leading to a later 6-month period as a Randroid. Everything. I read everything. And I was a teen so you cannot imagine a worse dick than I was then.

In that light, somehow I can't help but see a vague dig at Ditko in this parody now.

Ah, one of my two most re-read WHAT IFs, the other being the Korvac story(funny thing, to this day I have NEVER read the original it was derived from). Not really that funny, but its jam quality, like the other one, is what makes it. It has a good cluttered energy to it.

The Michael/Korvac storyline in regular 616 continuity was pretty overblown. Jim Shooter had already had some pretty epic fights for the Avengers against the likes of Graviton, Count Nefaria (who had basically received the powers of Superman) and Ultron, and he felt the need to top himself. There was an interesting scene where Michael is battling Starhawk's alternate personality in psi-space at the same time that he's fighting Starhawk, but that's about it.

Was that or the Phoenix story the first of WHAT IF's cycle of "the entire universe would have been destroyed, the end" stories?

But... Aunt May WAS the "Golden Oldie". It was just as a Silver Surfer replacement, not as one for Iron Man.

Ok, they all crack me up but man, the Elektra one is hilarious. And it's essentially what happens in MC2 for her.

I love that What If?. Funnier than either Not Brand Echhh, or that thing that Bendis did a few years ago with Jim Mahfood in which he basically said that anyone who disagreed with him was a doody-head.

My favorite humor comic ever (at least in superhero comics) would have to be the GLA: Misassembled miniseries that Dan Slott and Paul Pelletier did, shortly after Avengers: Misassembled and Identity Crisis, both of which Slott mercilessly mocks. Plus, you know, Squirrel Girl! (It's actually a little poignant now, given that Slott has basically an IV drip of the Quesada Qool-Aid jacked into his carotid artery.)

Also, that one-shot of Spider-Man marrying the Black Widow is the singularly most disturbing thing I've seen tonight.

Not that I'm... trying too hard to surpass it...
