Kicking off the New Year with my favorite Bromance

Started off my New Year by hitting my LCS and picking up my one hold from last week: X-Men: to Serve and Protect #2. And naturally, my first S_D post of the year is going to star Anole.

Wow. Those are some seriously impenetrable disguises the boys have got there.

Also, I think a fake mustache is just impractical for a vigilante/superhero. Come on, Anole. You can do better than that.

I think I like this version of the Fastball Special better, because Victor and Santos' version actually includes baseball bats!

As fashionable (and functional) accessories, mind you.

God I am loving this story, no angst or whining or temper tantrums, just two of the X-men's kids finally acting like heroes and enjoying the fact that they're actually doing some good for once and not just fighting for their lives.

Why can't Yost just write a New X-men team book?

(yes, this continues to be a sore point for me, and no, I'm not likely to let it go any time soon. Still, I will admit to liking just about everything else he's done, barring X-23).

Fair enough. But I'm just saying that I miss stories that focus more on the students, and X-Dudes is really fun. Legacy is a great book but I'm so sick of Rogue and Magneto, and the kids just don't do nearly enough.

So...why is landing on Santo, a dude made of rock, supposed to be a better plan than landing on the pavement?

Reading this makes me feel that he would have done well with the established Academy X format of the series, rather than the angst and darkness that we got instead.

I would guess because he caught them and slowed their fall? *shrug*

I don't think being caught by, falling couple of stories with, and landing on someone who probably masses more than twice what they do combined would help. Especially with the made of rock thing.

Yeah, I know. Comic-book physics. That one just really jumped out at me given the context. It would have made more sense for Santo to be the one to go in (rock = fireproof, and we don't even know if he has to breathe), toss the lady out of the window to Vic, who can stick to the walls across the way, and Santo doesn't even have to worry about the explosion.

Also, if Vic's only fifteen years old still, I am officially re-skeeved at how Greg Land draws Pixie.

They've done exercises for that (?). Although yeah, comic book physics. I suppose, in theory, Rockslide jumping midway to intercept them means that he absorbed most of the impact when they landed. Even if it would have done some damage, it'd have been better than landing splat on the pavement.

I KNEW IT. Seriously, the only friend line... I kinda hoped that would be brought up. I know he's got way more friends than that, but then out of many, there's always one who will go with you everywhere, take your crap and love you for it, and trust you completely.

He didn't have time to jump to the building, I guess, so it was Anole or nothing.

I don't think it makes a difference, though. He's absorbing the impact from his own fall, but he's not significantly decreasing the distance of the fall or the velocity for the people he's catching, and Anole and the damsel-in-distress are still landing on Santo, which is as bad -- or worse, given that he's an uneven surface -- as hitting the pavement.
