CosmicBookNews has an article with an update as to who Christian Bale Batman may tangle with for the 3rd film.

Fair warning, lots of potential spoilers.

From the article. One spoiler without revealing plot points.

Batman has become more of a "myth" in Gotham as the criminal underworld has dissipated. Gotham is safer with arrests 30% down so The Dark Knight keeps a very low profile. Batman also has a new aerial vehicle, "The Wraith". A modified military prototype aircraft/drone with a 40 foot wing span. The Batmobile is now equipped with an E.M.P device.

I love love LOVED the design of the Batwing from the 1998 movie and how it was incorporated into the DCAU. The Batman aerial vehicles in the comics since then have been disappointing. A modified military hunter/drone sounds more plausible for flying around the city canyons than a huge jet.

For legality, from Batman: War Games

Why is Black Mask sporting a Skull face?

Forgive my ignorance but I haven't been reading some of Batman's books.

At one time his "mask" was actually burned/grafted onto his face. Various artists have interpreted this in different ways, but it's sort of treated like Red Skull these days.

Almost correct.

1. Originally it was just a ebony wood mask carved from his fathers coffin.
2. Fighting with Batman got him caught in a fire making the skull mask mess up his face.
3. During NML he ditched the mask entirely and messed up his face even more when he went a little MORE crazy. (as seen in the picture here as set during War Games where he tortured and "killed" Stephanie Brown)
4. Shortly thereafter he is murdered by Catwoman.(something that I don't think Bruce has ever known/realized)

So technically, Black Mask isn't treated like Red Skull these days. Cause he is dead. There was a second Black Mask recently, but SPOLIER: that turned out to be Jeremiah Arkham sporting a physical mask again.
The "current"

Glad to be of service. Got to put the large amount of Batman Trivia to use some how right?

Bruce knew that Selina killed Black Mask. He was oddly cool with it.

That ticked me off a little given how anal he is about other superheroes killing criminals.

Interesting. I will fully admit that as the huge Batman fan I am, I have actually never really followed any of Selina's books (unless there was a cross over)

I will have to check that out.

Originally he had a mask of ebony (carved from his parents' coffin lids) accidentally fused onto his face during his initial origin story, but during No Man's Land he went crazy(er), and implictly cut it off, leading to his current look.

Basically he thought that the near deserted, savage version of Gotham that had been left following the earthquake that destroyed most of the city was Gotham "taking off its mask to show its true face". So he effectively destroyed his own face to follow in its example, and discovered a new philosophy of "suffering makes you stronger, and scars are evidence that you have suffered". This caused a large cult to surround BM as similarly unstable citizenry started to follow his ideas, deliberately disfiguring themselves and their victims to make this philosophical point.

After No Man's Land ended and BM survived an apparently failled assassination order decreed by Two-Face, BM dropped the whole cult angle and built up a new power base in Gotham's East End by using some of the more corrupt members of the GCPD to act as his eyes, ears and enforcers as he regained his wealth through a massive drug smuggling/dealing operation (which involved getting the kids of drug addicts to fly to Colombia with a fake parent, swallow dozens of plastic packages of heroin, and then chaining them to a bed once back in Gotham to retrieve the drugs when they past them. Naturely, a lot of kids died of overdoses because of this).

When Selina Kyle disrupted said drug operation as it nearly killed the son of a friend of her's (and framed Holly Robinson for the murder of an undercover cop) by stealing millions of dollars of diamond from the mysterious drug lord of the East End (as I said, people thought that BM was dead at this point), BM decided to get his revenge by doing horrible, horrible things to Selina loved ones. Like cutting up Selina's brother in law and feeding him to his wife/her sister.

Naturally Selina didn't like this either, so she booted him off a balcony, only he apparently survived that too, and took over Gotham during the War Game cross-over with information he gained from Hush and Spoiler. Though in the latter case, he needed to use broken glass and powertools to get her to tell him what she knew.

Time later, and Black Mask now controlled the Gotham Underworld, and tried to gain membership to the Society of Supervillains in order to get the perk of being able to call in Deathstroke if he's bothered by Batman too often. But it's revealled by Slade that he can only get membership if he had an actual arch-enemy.

This caused him to go after Selina, maiming and nearly killing her friends and family in the process. Catwoman, knowing that BM wouldn't stop, decides that she's had enough, and just shoots him in the face to protect her loved ones.
