So here's the first look at Andrew Garfield with the Spidey suit for the new movie!



I like it very much and I really like Marc Webb's directing in 500 days of Summer so I'm hopeful of it

I'm skipping the film. WAY too soon. Unless they do something to set themselves apart from the generic superhero formula (they should've had a black actor play spider-man), my opinion won't change. Or they add the Black Cat =)

I honestly would have took Pattinson over having Macguire playing the role again. But I'm perfectly happy having Andrew Garfield in the role. He's been pretty good in the film's I've seem him in, and seems like he might be a better fit for the part.

I'm really just hoping this movie will forever banish all the horrible memories I have of that dim, slow witted, cowardly, simpleton version shown in Raimi's movies.

Maybe we'll actually get a fast talking, wise cracking Spidey this time around. Wouldn't that be nice? Might actually feel like a proper potrayal of the character.

Not sure about the changes to the costume, as I don't really think it needed the lines on the blue parts. Though I'm glad to see the 'white' web lines on the red parts are gone. That always bugged me for some reason..

I'd watch it. Anything's better than that horror of a Punisher movie I happened to stumble upon on HBO, and I'd like to get that memory OUT OF MY HEAD GAHD.

I actually liked the Tom Jane one. But then Tom Jane is great in about anything.

New Costume

I don't have a problem with the texture of the costume but the Spider just lacks the iconic Spiderman look. If they change that then I'll see the movie.

Maybe this is the costume he wore when he was a wrestler.

The cuts and bruises may also imply that he fought the Lizard in the sewers.

Obviously ol' Webhead's been in some kind of scuffle, so this isn't the best pic to judge the overall aesthetics of the suit. I will say, however, that Garfield sports a much "leaner" profile than Maguire's Spidey, and I like that.

Spider-Man is often drawn as overly buff and brawny. He's actually pretty scrawny and wiry, which is why it's so "Amazing" when he dead-lifts cars and the like over his head.

I kinda like that the webshooters are silver and obvious instead of hidden under the gloves.

I like the glove design. The chest pattern, not so much. It's...droopy, if that makes sense. Like the red is leaking down his front.

I thought he was covered in blood at first. The logo looks smeared over with black smudges as well so it took a lot of looking to see it clearly. It probably looks better cleaned up.

If anything I'd have hoped they'd simplify the Raimi design instead of just adding even more ribbing and shit.

I would actually probably be the easiest sell in the world for a Spider-Man reboot because fuck Spider-Tobey but then I found out they took out MJ and they're putting in Carlie "shitty character" Cooper and I'm not paying actual money for Joe Quesada's fanfiction so pass I guess :(

Doesn't look a hell of a lot different from the original, really, except this one doesn't have the 'webs' raised up like the other one did.
Man, I still just don't get why they're restarting things in the first place. The original Spider-Man franchise was, by and large, awesome, and it had already built up its own momentum, story-wise. It was itching for a big pay-off that now we'll never get. Sure, the third one was not very good, but that doesn't mean they had to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I LIKED Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst as Spidey and MJ, and we got a damn good Doc Ock out of Alfred Molina and a not-at-all-bad Green Goblin out of Willem Dafoe. Even the Sandman wasn't bad - the reason the third one went bad was because of two many damn cooks in the kitchen, not due to any inherent flaws in the series itself. Sure, I'll go see the new #1 - but I'll be wishing it was #4.

Okay, now that looks like how Spider-Man should look. Whether you like the costume or not, he has exactly the right physicality for Peter: lean and agile.

And TBH... I kinda like the costume.

Only downside I'm seeing in this film so far is that Emma Stone is playing Gwen rather than MJ. She would have made such an amazing MJ :(

I couldn't care less about Spider-Man, but Andrew Garfield was seriously amazing in Never Let Me Go. He effortlessly turned a pretty difficult role into a fully realized, multidimensional character and did it all with just some very subtle acting.
The script migh still be crap, but this will probably the most talented actor fans will ever get as Spider-Man.

Looks a little too glossy and leather-ish to be something a teenager sewed together in his bedroom, but you could say that for the original Spider-man film as well. For movies, the desire to look impressive on screen sometimes supercedes practical considerations.
