Transformers/G.I. Joe Mega-Post Part 2

Greetings True Believers!

The Joes and Autobots are back for another round of WWII adventures. Grimlock! Soundwave! Roadblock! The Baroness! Scarlett! Optimus! Cobra Commander! Battles, brotherhood and suggestive language!

I love this mini. Enjoy!



Let's start with Megatron talking to the Baroness.



Snake-Eyes plays matador with Ravage.





The battle is raging and the Joes run into one of the smaller and meanest Decepticons.







Ha, Rumble is such a dick. But Scarlett isn't taking this shit from a Decepticon with a Napoleon Complex.





Rumble goes boom and Bumblebee looks forward to more inter-species alliances.



I love this cover. Cobra Commander should always be over the top.



Grimlock and Roadblock are dangling off a cliff and Roadblock inspires, army-style.



I like this part, it's kinda sweet.





Time for a final showdown. Ninjas! Sharks!





Snake-Eyes drags his brother to the shore but his battle isn't finished yet. These two pages say everything that needs to be said about Snake-Eyes.





Yep, Snake-Eyes gives Chuck Norris nightmares.

And killing a Decepticon gives you permission to be emo.



The battle rages on and it's time for Grimlock to do some inspiring.



Optimus wonders if the Autobots should be fighting another race's war. He is shown Cobra's plans for the world.



Grimlock vs. Soundwave. Ha.



Snake-Eyes sneaks in to steal the Matrix from CC.



Cobra Commander is crippled by an explosion and Megatron offers him "mercy".



The battle reaches it's climax and OP makes the ultimate sacrifice for humanity.







And to finish it all off, a cover that should be an oil painting in my apartment.

Snake eyes can cut alien metal. With his mind.

The sword is just a prop.

I want to like this art, but somehow I just.. can't. The colouring is so... drab, which I get is the point, but it's unremittingly bleak and that just doesn't work for me in a story about GI Joe and Transformers.

I like the drab. It fits with the WWII feeling to me.

Yes, I think that's my problem with it. Despite what movies and TV might have us believe, WWII did not have a handy 20% colour reduction as a matter of course, it was as colourful as any other period in history.

This is true. I've seen several wonderful full-color photography books from that time period.

The feeling I like is because it seems more conductive to the story-telling.

One, this was epic in both senses of the word, and two, "You can drive me anytime" sounds like such a horrible pickup line XD

The art made it so different for me. Like... not great in the way I imagined, but amazing anyways. And in the first post, I could barely tell between Autobots, Decepticons, and landscape XD

So in the 4th scan, Grimlock is clearly a modern M1 Abrams in the first frame, but is a Russian T-34 in the second.

Did the artist not have enough good WWII armor references around?

Ok as much as I love Scarlett/Snake-Eyes (to the point that I even raged at GI JOE Resolute), I found Scarlett/Bumblebee really hot.

You raged at that part of Resolute too?

Thank goodness, I'm not the only one. Duke? FTW.

At least Snake-Eyes got a bad-ass fight with Storm Shadow.

Duke is a badass but you do not and I mean DO NOT choose him over Snake-Eyes. I try to convince myself that she did it because she knew Snake-Eyes could take care of himself with Storm Shadow and Duke probably needed her on the team. Still Scarlett always teamed with Snake-Eyes whenever she could in the comics, so this pretty much left a bad taste in my mouth.

Snake-Eyes/Scarlett is OTP I dunno why Warren Ellis didn't like it, or why in the GI JOE movie they seem to want to pair her up with Ripcord....

I'd like to think Snake-Eyes just went and stared at 'Bee until he confessed to flirting with Scarlett. Then he just points at him, once, and walks away.
