Millar's got a long track record of respect for Superman - many people consider his Superman Adventures comics the best thing he ever wrote, and his Superman:Red Son is my favourite elseworlds fiction that isn't New Frontier.
Garth Ennis has a similar thing - his depiction of Superman in Hitman, for example, is pretty respectful.
