Four pages from YOUNG JUSTICE #0...

This issue takes place towards the end of the one-hour pilot, after Superboy's been liberated from Cadmus but before the final scene at the Happy Harbor cave.

After Cadmus' explosion, everyone's heading home when they realize that Superboy has nowhere to go.

But Superboy's missing.

Wally's mom is tired of them loafing around all day, so she tells them to leave the house tomorrow. The two end up shopping for clothes for Superboy on Batman's dime.

There's a robbery by small time supervillains named the Terror Twins (who, as far as I can tell, are original characters). Wally and Superboy tackle them for a time until their adult counterparts show up to take over.

In the comic the mentors gave Young Justice a fair amount of grief over their activities even if they weren't the first sidekicks to do it. The reason emphasised was their immaturity and mistakes rather than simply being the first to act without orders. It wouldn't take much tweaking from what the pilot showed us to represent that.

But the show doesn't necessitate that the viewer has to have read twenty odd years of comics. Really, it's not AP DC. It's Beginner. Why 'tweak' what the pilot showed, when that's the given universe and it works? I thought the Young Justice comic was cute, and all, but I don't have any problem accepting that this is a different universe, and might potentially be even better in some respects. (I have high hopes, for instance, that if they introduce a Wonder Girl, she won't have near as much baggage as Donna Troy.)

The people who watch this show will very likely already have watched Batman TAS, Superman TAS, and the Teen Titans given they keep re-running those. I don't think confusion will be an issue.

Exactly. You already have a built-in fan base who are capable of dealing with alternate universes (the different Robins and mobile Barbara Gordon in Batman, composite Green Lantern and non-Kryptonian Kara in Superman, for examples), so the audience you aim for is that which might happen upon the show, or just give it a shot, and you want to make it as accessible to them as possible.
