Avengers Vs. Pet Avengers #4 - In Which Lockheed Takes His Licks

So, if you checked out the CBR preview of this ish linked to awhile back, you know what the dragons are really up to: It's time for their eggs to hatch, and they need to swallow the eggs to carry them up into space so they can be properly born. If the Avengers get in the dragons' way, they fully intend to mow 'em down, so it's up to the Pet Avengers to hold their erstwhile comrades back.

This they do, and admirably, and once the dragons have flown unimpeded into orbit (for a beautiful wordless hatching scene, thank you Ig Guara!) Throg explains the situation. Thor is most understanding, and apologetic for his hotheadedness. He summons the Avengers off to help rebuild the world, and in another lovely power pose, Throg declares "Avengers stand together. We will help." So they board the quinjet, Mockingbird carrying Hairball most adorably, and we see a big green hand grip the rim of the volcano from within as it flies off.



And then we're into the epilogue, headed "A Week Later...Avengers Mansion." Text box adds "A new structure has been built...A new home." And we see an outbuilding with PET AVENGERS MANSION painted over the door.

Lockheed mopes at the window and explains how conflicted he felt. He joined the dragons because he didn't want to be alone, but that meant betraying the Pet Avengers, and he tearily apologizes.

Something tells me we maybe haven't seen the last of that Foom character.

So something that has sort of been bothering me...why is Fin Fang Foom the only dragon that gets to wear pants?

F-cubed's entry in the Marvel Database gives me no enlightenment. But it does make me suspect it has something to do with his having more regular contact with the human world than the rest of his species.

I see from his wiki that FFF is actually an alien, but he seems to self-identify as a dragon here. It still doesn't answer my question of why he gets to wear pants; Godzilla never did either.

Well Lockheed is Flock and FFF is from Kakaranathara, and in the preview linked above they do say that the eggs need to be taken to space, so I would assume that all the dragons are aliens and probably from different places (but still able to breed together). I will accept your answer.

Another note related to pants: it appears that a huge green body and little purple shorts is a standard fashion in the MU.

Claremont did a thing in New Excalibur where there are native dragons on Earth, but they're solitary things and they were killed off by the alien dragons. It was a time travel story where Camelot was nearly destroyed because the dragons were acting so out of character the nights couldn't figure out how to fight them.

Y'know, I don't know how many of those are actually F-cubed, but the thought did cross my mind some of them might be the offspring of dragons whose parents have since been splatted...
