if you think about what DC did with him he's an actual teenanger in a teenage body now.

Think about it. He ages fast so when he's about two he's got the body of a teen. THen he's sent out of the main DC universe as he and the other Flashes hold Superboy-Prime captive for about a decade. So now he's got the body of an adult but he's only been alive for about 12 years. He lives as an adult till he's killed. But when Brainiac 5 brings him back they leave him the age he was physically before the fight with Superboy-Prime. So things line up now.

Doesn't change the fact that the personality shown there is not the one that the writers of Impulse carefully and lovingly cultivated over the years...only to see it ruined by editorial meddling.

Long before the character's Teen Titan days, there was an interesting interview with his creator, Mark Waid, where Waid said that the day Bart becomes Kid Flash is the day the character will be ruined. Funny in hindsight.

Nor a personality that reflects he lived for over a year as an adult - I'm not a huge fan of FMA, but I did like the way it approached Bart's need to rapidly mature. He's paid rent, and taxes, been to bars, had an adult relationship, died...

This Bart is essentially a brattier Kid Flash Wally. His personality is 'teenage boy lol'; it doesn't match his established characterisation in Impulse nor the expected characterisation considering what's happened to him since.

What is his established characterization in Impulse? I always read him as pretty immature in that too.

Less immature, more... inexperienced in the ways of the real world.

More literal minded than the average teenager, genuinely impulsive, rather incautious.

Also, very enthusiastic, curious, and... I think the word I want is "gentle." Very friendly but in a particular sweet, caring way that says "I look for baby birds to rescue" rather than merely "I generally get along with people."

Also his thought bubbles were entirely pictures, which doesn't sound like a personality trait when you say it out loud but did do quite a bit to define the kind of person he was all the same.

Yeah, but there was always an element of... thoughtlessness to him too. And I don't mean in the actively unpleasant thoughtless way like selfishness, but a genuine lack of thought and consideration of consequences.

As the name "Impulse" implies, and I think was quoted in story "he moves from inspiration to deed without passing through the stage other men call 'thought'".

It's true, but that is the one trait that I'd be cool with him losing, at least to a reasonable degree, because part of the general thrust of his series was him growing up and learning to think things through a little. It's the kindness, the spontaneity, the sheer delight in life and the utterly literal thinking that I really miss.

Plus, part of the reason that his thought ballows were in pictures were that it frequently showed him being confused about what he was dealing with. He no longer has reason to be that way,

Also, Kon needs to stop being a dick to Simon. The kid's my new favorite character and I'd prefer he doesn't go evil. Your alterego is hidden entirely by plaid and glasses. You don't have that much to hide.

Not wanting to get into an argument here, but brown skin doesn't necessarily = Indian. Besides, I haven't been keeping up with Soldtice, but isn't she South American?

Solstice very definitely isn't South American. Her real name is Kiran (Sanskrit for "Ray of light" as it turns out, which is a nice touch given her powers, though it's apparently usually a boys name) and her parents are Vijay and Rani (Vijay in particular is an Indian name), and her families base of operations is Delhi, though they have worked in digs in Pakistan.

The Conner in the last page looked rather odd. Leg wise, they seem way too long to the point that he looks like a male barbie.

Great plan on Conner's part... the problem, PEOPLE HE HAS KNOWN (THAT THE CREATORS SEEM TO FORGOT) HAVE DIED FOR BEING ASSOCIATED WITH SUPERBOY! Remember that entire apartment bulding that you became the super of? It got burn down by a Super-gang, and what about that Superboy look-a-like that got SHOT by people who that it was really you! I would say Tana too, but that would be pointless.

I love the originality that this series has started, but I am still relative peaved that his last series is ignored (as well as not counting up like they did with Adventure Comics)...

Um, how does Lori being Luthor's niece help Kon's life mirror Clark's? I mean, brought up by the Kents, attending Smallville High, Simon= Lex Luthor/Pete Ross crossbreed, but how does Lori fit in? She's related to him, so she can't be Lana Lang, and she isn't really evil. Or smart. Just don't see the parrell.

Sorry, those were two separate thoughts. They weren't really related.

I just think Lori being Lex's niece makes no sense in terms of Lex's origin. Who's Lex's brother/sister? Pre-Crisis Lena doesn't exist, Post-Crisis Lena is not related to him and dies. Lex killed his parents and then goes to a foster home. Where does his sibling fit into this?

Well, it seems Lena Luthor does exist now. She appeared in Adventure Comics during the time Lori was being introduced.

The Glass Disguise Technology has advanced a long way since the old days of Superman, allowing them to shrink the design down - sorta like mobiles.

I don't know! I've always imagined Kon as being suited to round-ish frames, something like Harry Potter glasses, for some reason. And then canon contradicts me; it's rather frustrating. But those tiny glasses? Totally not hiding any identities. Also: after a certain point, if the lenses get smaller and smaller, they become not so useful for seeing, even if they are only for close up and not everything further away than your feet (which is what mine are for; the lenses are higher up so they are actually in front of my eyes and not my cheekbones, and they are bigger despite being delicate-looking oval ladies' wireframes - and they still took some getting used to the small size for driving and stuff).

I liked the scene between Conner and Martha that led into the Bart arrival. Nice to see that Conner worries about the impact his Superboy stuff has on the town. Sad about Simon. Hope this doesn't turn him. Lori would be more interesting if the anvils weren't all over the place in Teen Titans portending the change in Conner's relationship status. I wish Kara's book was as 'grounded' as this.

Hey Kon? Just have Megan shapeshift into Superboy and show up as school lets out and "borrow" Simon from you for something. Then everyone knows that you and Superboy are clearly separate people who just happen to look alike and are both friends with Simon.
