Greetings True Believers!

Did you ever see those pics of superheroes dressed up like hipsters? Well, they were funny. CollegeHumor.com found them funny enough to create a animated video about them. It had me rolling! Enjoy!

"Please. Hulk only smashing ironically."

Yes, Snake-Eyes approves.

It's a phonetic spelling of a swear.

I don't think I'll ever understand what a hipster is actually supposed to be.

yourscenesucks.com--the perfect go-to field guide for scenester sterotypes of all stereostripes--has two different hipster examples to give you some idea: the Fixed Gear Hipster and the Williamsburg Hipster.

*the more you know*

They forgot the bit about how the fixed-gear hipster rides around carrying his coffee in an open Mason jar so anyone within range is in danger of getting it spilled on them.

...Or is that just my neighborhood?

Ha. That was one of my first thoughts too. But seeing Juggy as a frat-jock with a popped collar made up for it.

Admittedly, part of my amusement comes from a personal thing. I have this friend and he matches the "hipster" thing so much it hurts. Hurts funny.

Hipster is someone who likes something you hate or hates something you like and dresses different from you.

There is a more accurate definition but that seems to be how people use it NOW.

It's not that they like something you hate. It's that they look down on whatever you like, and if you like something THEY like, then they'll hate that thing too. The minute a band they love becomes popular, it's dead to them.

See, I don't really get the whole 'hipster' thing. In this, they seem to be defined as 'self-righteous slackers who dress in a slightly eccentric fashion', but from what I've heard, just about ANYONE can be declared a hipster. In fact, trying very hard NOT to be a hipster can be seen as hipsterish. Where will it all end? *shakes fist at sky*

Didn't Morrison have Professor X actually doing something like that, telepathically reading the mind of an author as they were writing, so he got all the original ORIGINAL ideas?

Fair enough, but 'poser' is a tricky definition, because where does 'I am genuinely enthusiastic about the things I care about, and wish to spread the love' become 'the things I DON'T like are obviously inferior, and the things I DO like will only remain that way as long as they pander to my interests'? There must be a grey area in between, but it's very difficult to discern.

You know what? I live in Portland, I drink microbrews, I have a distinctive hat (ACTUALLY distinctive, not that goddamn same narrow-brim fedora they're selling in fifty colors all of a sudden), I drive an antique car that's always in need of repair, I get all my clothes second-hand or online, I've got a small magazine I edit, and the indie film I wrote just got produced and is currently looking for distribution.

I AM A HIPSTER. There, I said it. I am the label everyone only ever applies to others. I am the thing nobody can ever admit to being. I am the Untrue Scotsman. It's me, okay? ME.

It wouldn't bother me so much, but the basic hipster joke is the same one that once bore the names of emos, goths, ravers, grunge kids, yuppies, yippies, hippies, party kids, mods, greasers, JDs, teddy boys, beatniks, and so on back to fucking flappers. It's always the same: "You're expressing your individuality by acting and dressing just like everyone else in the subgroup you deny being part of! Tee hee! That gets funnier every time!"

No offense intended to the original poster. I've just been kind of inundated with that joke (originally written by Vandal Savage about Goths) lately, and needed to get this off my chest.
