In a cold, mean part of my heart, I love it when people point out how utterly out of his league (no pun intended) Batman would be in a lot of these situations. Genius billioniare weightlifting acrobat or not, that are several things that would require super-powers to survive. Like fighting Darkseid.

Meh - I can't say this sort of humor appeals to me. I mean, good grief, HOW many 'Batman is out of his league' jokes have we had so far? It's overdone, and frankly, it's ridiculous - there are LEGIONS of other non-or-minimally-powered heroes out there, but does anyone ever pick on them? No - it's always Batman. Batman, Batman, Batman, ha ha, he's so lame 'cause he can't punch through walls. If you've GOT to pick on a non-powered hero, why not choose one that HASN'T been done to death?

Which is precisely why he deserves more respect. I mean, it's not that I have a problem with Batman-related humor, but he's BATMAN, dammit! There is a lot more to find funny about him than 'ha ha, he's got no powers' or 'ha ha, he's diddling Robin', which are seemingly the only two jokes the general public ever comes up with. WE GET IT, ALL RIGHT? Pick on someone else for a change - pick on Red Bee, he's used to it!

It's just a joke. Batman's my favorite superhero, and I thought The Dark Knight was a great movie, but... There's a lot about The Dark Knight that is ripe for spoofing.

And really, as much as the Joker is one of my favorite villains, you must admit... In the DCU, he's a tad overrated. The whole "When supervillains want to scare each other, they tell Joker stories" thing. There's a lot nastier baddies in the DCU, some that would make even the Joker say "That's pretty sick."

Well, yeah, sure, of course it's just a joke. And yes, there IS a lot about 'Dark Knight', and the Batman mythos in general, for that matter, that's ripe for spoofing - I just think this one was a bit of a cheap shot. There's humor and then there's mockery, and this is mockery. I've never really gotten a taste for mockery.
And personally, while I agree that the Joker's reputation is vastly overinflated at times, I've never really had a problem with the 'when supervillains want to scare each other' business. I mean, it's not power we're talking about here, or even nastiness, it's SCARINESS, and the Joker is a damn scary person. Remember, the people who would be telling each other these stories are not, by and large, the heavy-hitters, they're the more 'street-level' variety - otherwise ordinary humans with an edge or an angle or a gimmick. It's not like Darkseid shudders at his name, but among ordinary people, the Joker is, in many ways, about as scary as you can get.

I think there a difference between fans and the general population making the same jokes.

It would a rather tired retread if this originated at a comics site but collegehumor is pretty general cultural humor.

I'm happy that comics are on their radar even if the approach is basic.

And it's funny! Superman is a happy-go-lucky fratboy and remember it's making fun of NolanBats more then comicsBats.

"Hey look, Blue Beetle would get smeared across the floor like so much toothpaste if he fought Superman" isn't something anybody is ever going to mock or make a point of, because nobody ever claimed he wouldn't.

Batman, on the other hand, is constantly set up by the writers and fanbase as though he actually is in the league of these deity-level metas. An absurd assertion regularly upheld and repeated is worth challenging in a way that completely nonexistent claims that nobody's ever bothered to make are not.

Oh, I agree that Bats gets turned into the Unstoppable Bat-God far too often, and I have no problem with showing his vulnerable side - but all the same, he is GOOD at what he does. He's good enough that he's been part of almost every version of the JLA since day one, a team which primarily features some of the most powerful heroes on Earth - and he's not only held his own, he's excelled, and is a respected member of the team. Yes, of course the bat-legend has been inflated to bloated extremes at times, and there's nothing wrong with puncturing it a bit, but portraying him as USELESS and a foil for superpowered oafs just rubs me the wrong way. He may not be as unstoppable as he's sometimes presented to be, but he's earned some RESPECT, dammit.

I love Cap and Deadpool crossovers, if only because Steve is often so completely flummoxed. Like that great story back in the day when Deadpool was actually a prophesied good guy (but the people in charge didn't believe in him, so they got Cap to try and do it instead?). I just like the Wade tornado going through, and Cap picking himself up afterwards, speechless.
