In the 853rd century, humanity has colonized every planet in the solar system. Life exists on Mars once more.

So what happened to the last survivor of the planet's previous residents? A time-traveling Kyle Rayner learns the fate of a certain green Alien Ace.

The green comet is Kyle Rayner, visiting from the 20th century. He's met by none other than... J'onn J'onzz.

J'onn tells his life story.

Among the many evils he fights over the millennia, there's an alien race called the Swarm. He fights them across the universe, from planet to planet, for 20,000 years before he finally wins.

Darkseid turns Mars into a second Apokalips.

Leading a resistance movement, J'onn eventually defeats him with a trap. He takes Darkseid with him through a Boom Tube straight into the Source.

Before Kyle leaves, J'onn has a message to deliver to his younger self.

And after Kyle departs, J'onn speaks to the wind...

Did J'onn ever show up in the 30th century in a Legion comic? That'd make for an interesting story.

I think their were bits during the Archie run of Legion that hinted that RJ Brande was Martian Manhunter several centuries old in a new persona.

Yes actually! In one iteration (who can keep track?, the Legion's financial backer R. J. Brande was either implied or revealed to be a shapeshifted J'onn.

The post Zero Hour Legion has several hints, including Saturn Girl reading his mind and find a fuzzy image of a familiar green profile deep within his memory

Also, Lar Gand/Valor seems to be aware that this is the case (from his time in the Phantom Zone) and the new hero name he took; M'onel, was the old Martian word for "Wanderer".

He showed up right before Zero Hour in the old-school LoSH comic. Amethyst had possessed Kono and he was helping her. If you read those two sentences, you can guess how epic that subplot was.
