Yeah, but his origin was more or less completely altered by the "You actually ARE half Superman, half Luthor" deal.

I was under the impression that the part about him needing artificial TK powers was still in continuity - Jones merely established that Superboy had kryptonian powers that didn't manifest for the first few years.

To be honest, I don't think Johns was that thorough, he just changed what he wanted and sod what had gone before.

The seed of Kon not having just the powers he was "born" with though, was already planted in the Karl Kesel Superboy comic run, when the status of his vision powers was addressed. He used a sort of ST:TNG VISOR affair for a few issues, but lost it, and STAR Labs noted that Kon's eyes had an unusual construction which suggested that he might still develop natural vision powers given time, though whether they would be the same as Kryptonian vision powers was never made clear. It might just have been Westfield dicking around with the DNA.
