The sales just couldn't keep the title going. That's one thing. They made sure to keep him front and center - he was on the Teen Titans and got a co-feature - so that new fans had were to find him.

Something like five million people are about to be exposed to the character. This is a case where I honestly believe that regardless of what Winick, Didio, or Harras might want, Diane Nelson would step in and say "No, this will hurt our bottom line".

I'm waiting until BD is over to really pass judgement on if any of these characters are staying dead, but I think the big difference between the two is that there is no classic flavor Blue Beetle to replace Jaime if he's dead - the license just goes away for now. And also, Ryan's death wasn't telegraphed and trumpeted across the internet like they wanted us to get worked up and angry about it. The massively telegraphed deaths never stick. Ted Kord's was pretty obvious, but they still obscured him on the cover. Hell, we didn't know MAGOG was going to die in advance. And that was Magog!

Honestly... what is the point of this fake-out? It's just cliche, boring and we already KNOW it's a fake-out because Blue Beetle is slated to appear in Batgirl in a couple of months.
I just don't understand how death fake-outs even advance the plot in any way. Everyone is sad for like two seconds and then, Oh, welp, he's alive!
On top of that, you've got fake-outs with Steel and Phillipus and the whole fake-out deaths of PoC characters is just fucked up. Something at DC editorial has got to freaking change.

	Here's the Feb. 4th interview with Bryan Q. Miller where he says: "This year, we've got Damian again, of course, and he's always a kick to write. There will be a few issues where Blue Beetle will come in to help with the story." I believe it's slated to begin after the whole Death of Oracle story arc is finished. They're done for the same reason characters' lives are endangered at all. The point is suspense, though the execution doesn't always carry that off, of course.

He hasn't, no, because I think the Steel #0 came out just very recently (last week?) and it seemed so over the top and there hasn't been hardly any news on it that I can find, so I'm assuming it's a fake-out.
Phillipus's death was so gory and ridiculous, I'm just pretending it didn't even happen.

It's not even just an alarming trend (or just plain continuing crap treatment of most of the PoC characters), but it's also the fact that people -- fans -- are talking about it. A LOT. And Newsarama is now doing interviews on and articles on this very issue. And DC editorial still is just steering that ship just steadfast, no veering off this path of shittiness...

OH and then of course, when those women! do raise a stink, some asshole male writer comes along and says "Gee, they made me think about something or they asked for something! Maybe it would be best if I make some kind of thinly veiled threat at the lives of real women! And I'll do it publicly!"
It's like a fucking abusive relationship.

I would forgive all if this happened. It would take a lot of heroes in concert to stop Khaji Da on default settings. He can synthesize kryptonite radiation and generate antimagic, teleport, go out-of-phase with conventional matter, and fuck up A-list supers in hand-to-hand AND ranged combat. Stopping him would be a nightmare.

About the only limiters we have is (obviously) there are Green Lanterns on earth (who are about equal in power by canon) and he's pre-programmed to avoid ecological damage, so he probably won't spam with energy weapons and explosives, with is SOMETHING, I guess.

The 'not harming nature' thing is still a bit mysterious, IIRC. I think the implication is that The Reach were concerned about footprint issues. They issue scarabs only on worlds they intend to take over, after all, and are willing to wait to get a world in better condition.

The other possibility, which is a bit more cosmic, is that The Reach were previously at war with the Guardians, and possibly other similarly powerful forces. In some versions of the DCU, The Green is a universal consciousness connecting all Life, which has ridiculous power at certain times. Given The Reach's enormous civilization, they may have to take pains to keep their aggregate natural destruction down, to keep The Green from taking notice and smacking them around.

So much rage right now. So much rage. I don't even care if it's a fake-out at this point, I've covered my coffee table in napalm vomit. Atrocitus ain't got nothing on me.

The art was pretty terrible in this issue. Paco looked like a forty-year-old man, and Tora's unattractive new costume got a mysterious belly shirt. Do you guys even talk to each other? Did Tora just rip the middle out of her costume between issues?

I give up. I don't care if Jaime comes back. I don't even care if Jaime and Ted both come back riding pink flying unicorns, I'm emotionally done. If anybody needs me, I'll be in the corner with my JLI trades and plenty of happy fanfiction.
