I don't see her being fridged until someone new takes over and the writer needs someone expendable to be disposed of. No way they're going to kill her off now when she's Peter's perfect soulmate.

Carlie is definitely one of those "flavor of the month" characters that are the pet character of whoever is in charge and then becomes discarded later on when someone else takes control...see Mattie Franklin or Milla from Daredevil.

I can see where she's coming from. Before she and Peter became an official couple, Carlie had a couple of good moments here and there throughout the series, most notably in Slott's "Mysterioso" story with Marcos Martin. Right now they're pushing her so hard that it's hard not to automatically push back, but a smart, nerdy girl who's actually a pretty good forensic examiner is a good potential supporting character. They're just failing at the hype.
