(Note: irish_spectre asked me to post this for her since she doesn't have an IJ account)

To continue on the celebration of Joker/Harley, here is a classic for you guys: Batman and Robin Adventures #18. The premise? Joker is down in the dumps because of some billboards featuring the Dynamic Duo and Harley means to cheer up her Puddin'.

The only one allowed to hit Harley is Joker. Also, note that he's so depressed that he's not even going to enjoy killing the guy.

What upsets Harley more than anything is not getting slapped around, but rather getting told that she's not funny! What to do to get her?

Check out the excitement on her face. (Also, the jazz age terms of "Daddy" and "Baby" are adorable.)

And the comic wraps up nicely with Joker laughing again and Harley comforted by the fact that she is responsible for it (despite Joker not knowing she did indeed succeed).

This was one of the first Joker/Harley comics I ever read and it never ceases to amuse me.

Actually, he wasn't that much of a dick in the DCAU...

Harley's just prejudiced.

Maybe not as OVERTLY a dick, but when you look at Beyond and the eventual state of his relationships with everybody who ever loved him...

D'awww. The art's a little off (what's with her eyes? they're very...round?) but this is pretty cute.

In that violent demented way.

Mark's Joker is definitely scarier when he's not laughing. I can hear the resigned, deadly serious tone...

Aw, Harl! I loved this (although that panel where she's tearing up is kind of really wonky . . .)

If I remember correctly, there's an entire montage of wackiness in this issue, about 2-3 pages long (the first scan in this post happened RIGHT after said montage ended). Now, this wouldn't be that out of place in a story like this... except Templeton (and possibly someone else) went one step beyond and inserted actual sheet music into those panels, apparently meant to be played while reading those scenes. Y'know, just to hew even closer to an actual episode of the animated series.

Has anyone ever tried playing it? Anyone.
