The impossible Superman of 85,271 CE

While Kal-El's visiting the 853rd century, his descendant from that era has his own hands full in present day Metropolis.
Vandal Savage has fired a nuclear Rocket Red suit, with Arsenal trapped inside it, at Metropolis.

Future Superman is powered by the 853rd century's Super-Sun, so in out time, under a measly regular sun, his abilities are fading fast.
Earth's been infected by the Hourman Virus, a nanomachine plague from the 853rd century that drives people irrational and violent (and causes weird black spots on the skin). Upon landing, Superman's set on by an infected mob.

Superman goes to work researching how he might stop the Hourman Virus. He's in the middle of that when Lex Luthor tracks him down.

Unfortunately, they aren't able to bypass the Fortress's security system, so that avenue becomes a dead end.
After returning to Metropolis Luthor, unhinged by the virus by now, tries to capture and imprison the future Superman in the belief that his biology might hold a cure.
