Hey Scans Daily! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. This has been something I have wanted to post for a long time, and since this week you don't need an invite code to join Dreamwidth, I figured I would just go ahead and make an account.

Anyways... when the solicitation came out for Runaways vol. 2, #26 when Joss Whedon was writing the book, a lot of people commented on the suggestive way the Punisher was standing behind Molly. This immediately made me think of the add from the 80's for a Spider-man/Power Pack PSA comic about sexual abuse.

So... I just had to make this:

I also wend looking though old posts and found this: http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/1122058.html

Do you think they were trying to draw similarities between the Runaways and Power Pack? I mean from that old post and Joss Whedon's first story arc alone, we have the Punisher and Kingpin. Not to mention both groups connection to Cloak and Dagger.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this.

Was I the only one who got something of a les yay vibe between Karolina and Julie Power in the Excelsior arc?

Well, they both turned out to be gay, so I'm gonna say it wasn't just you.

Wait, WHAT? Since when was Julie Powers lesbian?
I read Loners, which I thought has been her last appearence.

On the other hand, I think BKV was totally going for that in their brief appearence in Runaways. It was basically flirting!

It was never explicitly stated, but very, VERY, strongly implied during the Loners. Check out her profile at the Gay League.

More people need to reference that mini, methinks. I don't know what kind of hoops Slott had to jump through to get his 'Evil Phil Urich' story going in Spider-Man and ignore the fact that the Loners would've at least given Ben Urich or some of the New York hero set a call, given last they saw, Phil was cackling like an idiot, Goblin-style.

Absolutely none, I'm sure. I doubt the Spidey editorial team cares one whit about the Loners. (See also: Mattie Franklin and how much follow-up her death got with her uncle ... aka J. Jonah Jameson.)

Hey, she's just his niece that was close enough to him to practically be a daughter. I couldn't imagine being bothered by losing someone like that.

YMMV, I guess
Like I said, I read Loners, and I got some of the implications, but I don't think it was "strongly" implied.

I just want to see Julie in something again....

Oh, punisher. I was happy when they killed him.

Now I want to see him fight Squirrel Girl. Hilarity will ensue.

What happened to power pack? Still children?

It varies, Julie was in the Loners, Alex is one of the genius kids that Reed is mentoring, but the series of minis by Gurihiru like Thor and the Warriors Four seems to be out of continuity, but are so cute and so much fun that no one is complaining.

Some are, some aren't.

It was stated that Jule was sixteen in Loners, and if I remember correctly, she was ten in the original Power Pack. That means that Alex is around 19, Jack's either 13 or 14, and Katie is about the age Molly is now.

Even with the sliding timescale in effect, it's amazing how young those kids were...

It always bugs me when you have heroes who are like, four. That's just irresponsible on behalf of the super hero community.

PSAs like these would be so much more effective if people were less coy about just *telling* kids the basic facts of what sex is and what the sexual areas of their body are.

I just... argh. This is more confusing than helpful!!

"ways that don't feel good or seem right"

Yeah, that's not at all vague. Particularly not to an audience of children, who are famously savvy when it comes to sexual matters.

It also ignores that sometimes sexual abuse does feel good on a physical level, which is where a lot of the feelings of guilt or responsibility come from in the first place. Although now I'm struggling to imagine how they could effectively rephrase that line in a way that isn't equally vague...

My mom always used to say to tell if someone touched my privates, which was clear and not confusing.

Sorry, just explode into a tic when I think about that issue. Don't get me wrong, I dig Whedon's work, but FUCK did he do a terrible Punisher.

Whedon has said flat-out he doesn't like the Punisher. He mentioned something like "It's hard to believe he's never killed an innocent person."

Not even that bothers me--as I recall, the line that really pissed me off was when the Punisher goes after the Runaways, one of them says that they're just kids, he replies, "Wouldn't be the first time I've killed kids."

Oh fuck you. Punisher doesn't kill kids--he kills the fucks that kill kids.

I mean, Christ, if he hated the character that much...why did he use him?
